A restored Lowveld homestead gives &Beyond Kirkman’s Kamp its distinctive character. The lodge overlooks the Sand River, and guided drives explore a part of the Sabi Sand particularly well known for leopard sightings.

Walking safaris are central to the experience at this small and informal Klaserie camp. Guests stay in five thatched rondavels and explore the reserve on foot with trained guides, with vehicle drives completing the safari program.

Arathusa Safari Lodge overlooks a large waterhole in the northern Sabi Sand. Twelve suites provide a relaxed base for twice-daily game drives, while wildlife can often be watched without leaving the lodge.

Hoyo Hoyo is a small lodge inspired by traditional Tsonga architecture. The rounded suites surround a central area overlooking the bush, and guided safaris take place on a private concession inside Kruger.

Idube Game Reserve is a leafy safari lodge in the western Sabi Sand. Its renovated suites have private decks and plunge pools, while a hide, spa, gym and main swimming pool provide several places to relax between drives.

Twelve suites at Imbali overlook the Nwatswitsonto riverbed, each with a private deck and plunge pool. Morning and afternoon drives explore a 10,000-hectare concession in central Kruger.

Main Jock Lodge has 12 secluded suites overlooking dry riverbeds in a private Kruger concession. Each suite has a deck and plunge pool, and two guided game drives are included each day.

Kings Camp combines spacious suites with broad views across the Timbavati bush. Guests can join game drives and guided walks or watch wildlife from the underground hide near the lodge.

Lion Sands River Lodge has 18 rooms and suites spread along the Sabie River. Its generous shared spaces, swimming pools, and family facilities create a livelier atmosphere than those at the nearby smaller Ivory Lodge.

Tinga Lodge has nine spacious suites beside the Sabie River, each with a private deck and plunge pool. It welcomes families and offers guided drives in a private concession within Kruger National Park.

Londolozi Tree Camp is hidden beneath mature leadwood trees overlooking the Sand River. Its intimate setting, refined suites and long-standing association with the area’s leopards make it one of the reserve’s most sought-after camps.

Lower Sabie overlooks one of Kruger’s few permanent rivers. Accommodation ranges from bungalows and safari tents to larger guest houses, with a restaurant terrace facing the river.

Lukimbi has 16 spacious suites overlooking the Lwakahle River in southern Kruger. Game drives explore the lodge’s private concession. The large rooms and flexible family arrangements also make it suitable for longer stays.

MalaMala Camp is one of South Africa’s longest-established safari camps. Its thatched rooms and suites overlook the Sand River, floodplains or waterhole, with broad decks providing excellent wildlife viewing throughout the day.

Traditional bungalows are scattered beneath mature trees at this long-established family-run lodge. Morning and afternoon drives explore the Timbavati and Umbabat reserves, with time between activities to enjoy the peaceful grounds.

Nkorho Bush Lodge accommodates a maximum of 16 guests in eight thatched chalets overlooking the surrounding Sabi Sand bushveld. Morning and afternoon game drives are accompanied by an experienced ranger and tracker, with guided walks also available.

Notten’s is one of the original family-run camps in the Sabi Sand. Nine suites have private decks, indoor and outdoor showers and views into the surrounding bush, while candlelight and lanterns retain much of the camp’s traditional character.

Olifants Rest Camp occupies a high ridge above the Olifants River. Several viewpoints overlook the valley. The camp provides the usual national park facilities, along with guided drives, walks, and mountain-bike excursions.

Walking safaris are the main reason to stay at Plains Camp. Four simple en suite tents overlook the Timbetene Plain, and experienced guides lead morning and afternoon walks through a private Kruger concession.

Pondoro Game Lodge is set beneath large riverine trees on the banks of the Olifants River. The small lodge offers suites and chalets, guided drives, bush walks, and a hide where meals can be arranged, all overlooking the surrounding wilderness.

Punda Maria lies in the far north of Kruger, surrounded by unusually varied sandveld vegetation. The camp has bungalows, safari tents, a restaurant, a shop, and a pool, with a waterhole and a bird hide beside the camping area.

Four en suite safari tents make Pungwe one of the smallest camps in the Manyeleti. The accommodation is simple and comfortable, with guided drives placing the emphasis firmly on wildlife and time in the bush.

Eight spacious villas overlook the Sand River and surrounding floodplains at Rattray’s Lodge. Each has a private plunge pool, while twice-daily game drives are limited to four guests per vehicle.

Eight suites overlook the usually dry Mutlumuvi riverbed at Rhino Post Safari Lodge. Raised walkways connect the rooms and main areas, and morning and evening drives explore a large private concession in southern Kruger.

Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge is a family-friendly safari lodge in the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve. Spacious suites, two swimming pools and dedicated children’s facilities complement morning and afternoon game drives.

Curved walls, natural textures and partly concealed buildings allow Earth Lodge to merge into the surrounding landscape. Twelve suites and one private villa are complemented by a spa, a gym, and a distinctive underground wine cellar.

Luxury tents are set beneath mature trees at this intimate, family-run camp in the Olifants West Nature Reserve. Open views toward the northern Drakensberg and twice-daily game drives give the property a strong sense of place.

Savanna Lodge has nine suites set among indigenous trees in the western Sabi Sand. Each opens onto a private patio with a heated plunge pool, while the main pool and lodge deck overlook gardens and a waterhole.

Shingwedzi is a traditional national park camp beneath large trees beside the seasonal river. Rooms are arranged in two circles, and the camp has a restaurant, shop, pool and access to productive drives through northern mopane country.

Camp George has eight suites set among mature trees in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. Private decks, peaceful gardens and a small spa provide comfortable places to unwind between morning and afternoon game drives.

Eight tented suites overlook the Nhlaralumi River, Mbali Dam, and the distant Drakensberg Mountains. Each has a private deck and plunge pool, making the elevated views a central part of the stay.

A waterhole below the dining deck draws elephant and other wildlife close to Simbavati River Lodge. Guests can choose between tented suites and family chalets, with a spa, gym and children’s center adding to the lodge facilities.

Ancient rocks and the curves of the Sand River shaped the design of Singita Boulders Lodge. Its glass-fronted suites open onto private decks and heated pools, creating a close connection with the riverbank and surrounding bush.

Singita Ebony Lodge stands beneath large trees beside the Sand River. Canvas, timber and classic campaign-style furnishings give its 12 suites the atmosphere of an old explorer’s camp interpreted with contemporary comfort.

Glass-fronted suites line a ridge above the N’wanetsi River at Singita Lebombo Lodge. The contemporary design makes full use of the views, while private game drives explore Singita’s remote concession in southeastern Kruger.

Seven suites are hidden beneath trees on the bank of the Sweni River. The intimate lodge offers a quieter alternative to nearby Lebombo, with private drives exploring the same exclusive Kruger concession.

Skukuza is Kruger’s largest rest camp and has the widest range of facilities in the park. Accommodation, restaurants, shops, a museum and a nearby airport make it a practical base in a productive part of southern Kruger.

Open-fronted suites line a rocky ridge above the Luvuvhu River at The Outpost. The remote Makuleke Concession is known for baobabs, riverine forest and striking landscapes unlike those found farther south in Kruger.

Tintswalo Safari Lodge has six Explorer Suites, a family suite and the larger Baines Presidential Suite. Raised walkways connect the accommodation to the main lodge beside a seasonal river in the Manyeleti wilderness.

Candlelight, lanterns and simple eco huts give Umlani a genuine bush-camp atmosphere. Two wildlife drives are included each day, with guided walks adding a closer look at the Timbavati landscape.
