Lion Sands Ivory Lodge is situated in the southern section of the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve. It is one of only a handful of lodges which are located alongside the Sabie River. This is the main river running through the area. It forms the unfenced boundary between the Sabi Sand and the Kruger National Park - the premier destination for a luxury safari in South Africa.
This South African lodge consists of six ultra-luxurious suites decorated in themes of ebony and ivory. Each suite has an open plan bathroom as well as an outdoor shower. Guests can relax in their private heated plunge pool or sit in front of a log fire in their suite's lounge. The suites are equipped with air-conditioning and overhead fans. Beds are draped in mosquito netting and only the finest linens are used. Suites are located some distance apart and offer absolute luxury and privacy.
The main lodge complex features a dining room, lounge and bar area, which leads out onto a deck shaded by ancient trees. A boma is located just off the deck. It provides an exceptional dining area and alternates with the dining room every second evening. In the boma you will be served mouth-watering cuisine while enjoying a star-studded African sky, the sounds of the wild and the ambience created by a crackling log fire. Guests may also relax in the Lalamuka Health Spa or work up a sweat in the gymnasium.
Guests are flown to Lion Sands Ivory Lodge in Sabi Sand via charter from Johannesburg's O R Tambo International Airport for their luxury South African safari. Stumble upon the arresting Big Five during a game drive or observe all walks of wildlife sating their thirst along the Sabie River. This safari package is loaded with natural encounters, whether from the wheels of an open-air 4x4 vehicle, the quiet intimacy of your feet or the easy comfort of your suite.
Whittle away warm afternoons in the privacy of your suite's own rim-flow pool, or, for further indulgence, drive off the residues of city stress with one of the spa's luxuriously pampering Africology treatments. Feast on exquisite fares under the velvety ceiling of the African sky in the lodge's boma or the shady trees of the deck with its crown of lantern light. Alternatively, pre-arrangements can be made to visit the romantic Chalkey Treehouse - a stilted, solitary utopia where guests can overnight in the shroud of the wilderness.
Ivory Lodge is, in my opinion, the finest lodge located in the Sabi Sand. If a top-end safari in South Africa is what you are interested in, you need look no further. The reserve is family-owned and operated; something that invariably ensures that the entire experience is better managed than when the lodge belongs to a large company. I have stayed at Ivory Lodge on a number of occasions and must say that the suites are spacious beyond measure, the service impeccable and the safari experience second to none. I have received feedback from many clients of African Sky who share these sentiments.
