Sabi Sand

You will find Arathusa Safari Lodge in the northern region of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. No fences separate the Sabi Sand from the Kruger National Park. The wildlife in the area includes the Big Five, as well as a large number of plains game species. Arathusa's natural waterhole attracts a multitude of animal and bird species during the dry season. It is not uncommon to spot the Big Five in one day in Sabi Sand. For the avid bird watcher, the reserve's prolific birdlife provides a songful ambiance.

The lodge consists of ten standard thatched roof chalets all facing the waterhole. Four newly built luxury rooms are also available. All rooms are en suite with indoor and outdoor showers and a separate bathtub. The chalets are fitted with air-conditioning, mosquito nets, electronic safes as well as tea/coffee making facilities. The luxury rooms feature a private splash pool.

Guests may enjoy a book or socialize in the main living area. Meals at Arathusa are prepared with attention to detail and the best fresh produce. Breakfast and lunch are served in the dining room, while dinners are enjoyed under starry skies in the boma, with a crackling log fire and wilderness soundtrack. Guests may cool off in the lodge's infinity pool on hot summer afternoons. Two game drives are conducted daily in open 4x4 vehicles, accompanied by experienced local rangers and trackers.

To add to the fantastic South African safari experience already on offer, a new spa has been built. Guests may relish a pampering session by two qualified therapists who will ensure that the treatments contribute to a sense of relaxation and well-being.

Guests are transferred to South Africa's renowned Sabi Sand Game Reserve from Hoedspruit via O R Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. Spy the Big Five during game drives and learn more about the surrounding wilderness from your experienced guide, or observe gatherings of large herbivores around the shores of Lake Arathusa. Bush walks are another way to enhance you safari experience during this package.

Mealtimes are prepared by expert hands, from traditional continental breakfasts to three-course dinners around the cordial boma fire. Snacks and confectioneries may be savored throughout the day. Refresh yourself in the lodge's infinity pool or take relaxation a step further and revel in the spa's pampering TheraVine treatments. Enjoy affordable luxury on this safari in one of the continent's premier game reserves.

Riaan's Review

The lodge offers good quality four star accommodation in the game-rich area of the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve. Many of our clients have stayed at Arathusa Safari Lodge over the years and the feedback has almost always been positive, both in terms of the quality of service as well as the enjoyment of great game viewing. Arathusa does have the disadvantage that it is not as easily accessible from the regional airports as the lodges of the southern Sabi Sand and Timbavati. This may require costly charter flights or lengthy transfers.
