Location & Setting
Berg-en-Dal lies on the bank of the Matjulu Spruit in Kruger’s south-west, framed by rocky hills and dry riverbeds. It’s the closest main rest camp to Malelane Gate, making arrivals straightforward from Johannesburg via the N4. Inside the fence, large riverine trees and preserved natural vegetation create shady lanes and viewpoints. A signature floodlit waterhole sits on the camp edge, with an underground hide for close yet safe night viewing—perfect after self-drive loops in the surrounding mountain bushveld.
Rooms
Accommodation spans self-catering bungalows and family cottages to two guest houses and a spacious campsite with power points and braai stands. Units vary by layout and outlook; many are air-conditioned and serviced daily. Beds are configured for couples, families and small groups. As SANParks refines inventory over time, the camp does not publish a single fixed room count; presenting “varied units” keeps details accurate for guests choosing between rondavel-style bungalows, cottages or camping according to need and budget.
Facilities
Facilities include the Tindlovu restaurant for sit-down meals, a convenience shop, guest-only swimming pool and picnic/day-visitor areas. The standout experience is the floodlit waterhole and underground hide opposite the camp, complemented by ranger-led activities—guided sunrise/sunset drives, night drives and guided walks. Connectivity is primarily via mobile networks; public Wi-Fi isn’t a standard camp amenity, though an internet café/LAN has historically been available. Conference and auditorium spaces support groups and talks in high season.
