The family-owned Elephant Plains Lodge is a luxurious four star lodge located in the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve. The lodge overlooks a permanent waterhole which attracts a large diversity of different species, especially during the dry season. 24 guests are accommodated in six luxury chalets, five rondavels and the Manyeleti honeymoon suite. The rooms are decorated in an African theme and provide exceptional accommodation in one of South Africa's finest safari areas.

All rooms at Elephant Plains Lodge are fitted with fans as well as air-conditioners to ward off the hot African sun. The rooms are also equipped with mosquito nets, small safes and tea/coffee facilities. The central area, which consists of a dining room, lounge and library, is splendidly decorated and provides a warm, inviting ambiance. The lodge boasts an in-house spa which offers a wide variety of treatments. A well-equipped gymnasium is located in the main complex.

Mealtimes are a taste explosion with a combination of local and international dishes. Breakfast and lunch are normally served in either the dining room or on the deck. Dinners are typically served outdoors around a cozy campfire in the boma.

Two game drives are conducted daily by local rangers and Shangaan trackers. These game drives are enjoyed from the back of open 4x4 vehicles. Guests also have the option of a bush walk after the morning game drive to enhance their safari experience.

Guests are chartered directly to Elephant Plains Lodge in the famed Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve from O R Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. Game-viewing in this eminent Big Five zone is unparalleled, from daily game drives with the expertise of seasoned rangers to intimate bush walks chaperoned by deft trackers. This safari package swells with unforgettable wildlife encounters.

Sundowners preclude thrilling night drives bountiful with Africa's nocturnal critters. From dewy cocktails poolside with auspicious views of the dry Manyeleti riverbed to cozy mealtimes around the amber afterburn of the boma fire, your taste bud experiences will be perpetually complemented by the prevalent aura of Africa.

Riaan's Review

Many clients of African Sky have stayed at Elephant Plains over the years. The comments and feedback have always been positive. The honeymoon suite, in particular, has received some rave reviews. The lodge is not as easily accessible as those found in the southern Sabi Sand. It does, however, offer some of the finest four star accommodation in the Sabi Sand, and the safari experiences are truly memorable. If you are traveling to the Sabi Sand on a moderate budget, I would recommend considering a stay at Elephant Plains.
