Location & Setting

The Outpost occupies a remote private concession of roughly 28,000 hectares in Kruger’s Pafuri region, renowned for striking scenery and rich biodiversity. Built along a ridge, the lodge overlooks the Luvuvhu River and broad sweeps of mopane and fever-tree woodland that draw wildlife year-round. Access is typically via a charter flight to the nearby Pafuri airstrip, placing guests deep in a seldom-visited corner of the park. From this vantage point, drives and walks reach riverine forests, sandstone gorges and floodplains, delivering a strong sense of wilderness and consistently rewarding birding.

Rooms

Twelve stand-alone suites are spaced along a Zimbabwean-teak walkway of about half a kilometer, ensuring privacy and uninterrupted views. Each contemporary suite features retractable or openable fronts for an immersive, indoor-outdoor feel, with an open en-suite bathroom and a private terrace complete with a daybed. Décor is clean and understated to keep the landscape central, while thoughtful touches add comfort despite the lodge’s remote location. The ridge-top positioning brings cooling breezes and expansive outlooks over the Luvuvhu valley, creating tranquil spaces to retreat between drives and walks.

Facilities

The main lodge presents wide, uncluttered views from generous decks, with a lap pool for cooling off during midday heat. Guests can relax in the lounge and library, and dine in the main area, the enclosed courtyard or poolside under the stars. Picnics beside the river can be arranged, and guided walks access dramatic areas like the Lanner Gorge that vehicles can’t reach. Service focuses on flexibility and quiet refinement, complementing the lodge’s contemporary design ethos and its wild, far-northern Kruger setting.
