Golf Tours and Safaris in South Africa
South Africa offers some of the continent's finest golf experiences, from Fancourt's celebrated courses near George to coastal layouts around Knysna and established championship venues in Sun City. African Sky arranges private golf vacations that combine preferred courses with comfortable accommodation, regional sightseeing and, where requested, a safari. Tee times, transfers and touring are coordinated to suit the itinerary.
The Garden Route is particularly rewarding for golfers. Fancourt's Montagu and Outeniqua courses provide contrasting parkland layouts, while The Links offers a demanding links-style experience. Farther east, Pezula and Simola overlook the Knysna area. Several excellent courses can therefore be enjoyed without changing accommodation every night.
Cape Town and the Winelands add another dimension to a golf vacation. Courses such as Steenberg, Erinvale and Pearl Valley can be combined with visits to the Cape Peninsula, wine estates and restaurants. Sun City provides a different setting, with the Gary Player Country Club and Lost City Golf Course offering contrasting rounds.
For longer journeys, golf can be followed by time in the Kruger region or another South African safari destination. Our private tours allow sightseeing to be arranged around tee times, with suitable time for travel between regions. Course selection, rounds and accommodation can be adjusted according to the preferences of the traveling party.

Best Golf Destinations in South Africa
South Africa's leading golf regions combine contrasting course styles with major attractions, making it possible to build a varied golf itinerary around the parts of the country you most want to explore.
Cape Town
Steenberg and Royal Cape are among the established courses golfers can consider around Cape Town. The city also offers Table Mountain, the Cape Peninsula and restaurants, with the Winelands within reach for additional rounds.
Garden Route
Fancourt, Pezula, Simola and other respected courses combine with forests, beaches and dramatic coastal scenery.
Kruger Area
Golf in the Lowveld can be combined with a Kruger safari, although access to certain courses is restricted. Leopard Creek accepts visitors only on selected dates through approved accommodation partners, making advance arrangements essential.
KwaZulu-Natal
Coastal, resort and inland courses can be combined with warm Indian Ocean beaches, the Drakensberg or northern KwaZulu-Natal safari areas.
Sun City
The Gary Player Country Club and Lost City Golf Course provide two very different rounds within one convenient resort destination.
Gauteng
Johannesburg and Pretoria offer established parkland courses, including Royal Johannesburg and Pretoria Country Club. Golf here can be incorporated into an itinerary that continues to Sun City or the Lowveld.
Why Choose South Africa for a Golf Vacation
Exceptional Course Variety
South Africa offers distinctly different golf environments within one country. A longer trip can include mountain-backed Cape courses, Garden Route layouts, bushveld golf and resort courses without making every round feel the same.
Golf with Safari and Sightseeing
Rounds can be balanced with Cape Town attractions, wine estates, coastal scenery and Big Five game viewing. This also makes the trip more rewarding for couples where only one traveler is an avid golfer.
Private, Flexible Travel
Private touring allows the route to be adapted around preferred courses and tee times while leaving enough time for regional attractions. Golf days do not have to dominate every day of the vacation.

Plan Your South African Golf Vacation
The best golf itinerary starts with the courses and regions you most want to experience, followed by a realistic balance between golf days and sightseeing. Travel season, preferred tee times and the amount of safari or touring you want to include should all be considered before finalizing the route.
Choose Your Golf Regions
Cape Town, the Garden Route, Sun City and the Lowveld each offer a different style of golf. Choosing two or three complementary regions usually produces a more enjoyable trip than trying to cover the entire country.
Balance Golf and Sightseeing
Allow enough time for Cape attractions, wine estates, safari activities and scenic touring. Rest days or half-days can also be useful between demanding rounds on championship courses.
Plan for Season and Tee Times
Weather varies substantially between the Western Cape, Highveld and Lowveld. We consider the complete route and secure appropriate tee times rather than treating every golf region as though it has the same conditions.
South Africa Golf Vacation FAQ
Answers to common questions about tee times, golf equipment, safari combinations and planning a privately guided golf vacation in South Africa.
What golfing costs are included in my golf tour?
Green fees for the rounds specified in your itinerary are included. Club rental, carts and caddies may carry additional charges depending on the course and the arrangements requested.
What time will I normally tee off?
Morning tee times usually work well because they leave part of the afternoon available for lunch, sightseeing or relaxation. Exact times depend on course availability and your preferred schedule.
Which area is best if golf is the main focus of my trip?
The Garden Route is particularly strong for a concentrated golf stay because several highly regarded courses lie within a relatively compact region. Cape Town and the Winelands can easily be added to create a broader Western Cape itinerary.
Should I bring my own golf clubs?
Regular golfers often prefer using their own equipment, particularly on a trip with several rounds. Rental equipment can be arranged at many courses if you prefer not to travel with clubs.
Can I combine golf with a Big Five safari?
Yes. Golf and safari work particularly well together in South Africa. A longer itinerary can include Cape and Garden Route golf before continuing north to Kruger, or combine Sun City with a nearby safari area.
Can the number of golf rounds be changed?
Yes. Our golf vacations are customizable. We can add or remove rounds, substitute courses and adjust the balance between golf, sightseeing, safari activities and leisure time.
Cape Town and its surrounding area, along with the Garden Route, stand out for their excellent championship golf courses. I recommend Steenberg and Arabella in the Cape region. On the Garden Route, my favorites are The Links and Montagu at Fancourt near George, Pinnacle Point near Mossel Bay and Pezula in Knysna. Leopard Creek is also worth considering when staying at one of the select safari lodges near Kruger National Park that can arrange access.
