Location & Setting
Onkoshi occupies a secluded site on the northern rim of the Etosha Pan inside Etosha National Park. The pan’s vast salt flats dominate the outlook, shifting from mirage to pastel sunsets as light changes through the day. Game viewing focuses on nearby waterholes and the open Andoni Plains, both known for mixed herds and predators. Because distances in Etosha are long, most guests break the road journey from Windhoek overnight; once here, the camp’s pan-edge position rewards you with horizon-to-horizon views and a calm, contemplative atmosphere between activities.
Rooms
Fifteen elevated chalets—fourteen standard and one honeymoon—are built on wooden stilts for cooling breezes and panoramic views. Each en-suite unit includes ceiling fans, a shower, and a private deck that faces the pan. Interiors are simple and comfortable, using light woods and canvas to keep attention on the landscape. Sunrise coffee on your deck and after-drive sundowners are easy rituals here, and the stilted design keeps foot traffic light on the fragile pan-edge environment while giving guests that coveted sense of space and sky.
Facilities
The main area combines lounge, bar and dining spaces that flow to a broad deck overlooking the pan. A compact pool offers a midday cool-down, while the sunset deck is the social heart of camp. There’s a small curio shop; laundry can be arranged, and staff are happy to set early breakfasts or late light bites around activities. Daily guided drives are the core experience, with a strong focus on prime waterholes, seasonal birding and the open plains north of the pan. The overall feel is relaxed and unpretentious, aligned with the setting.
