Stanley's Camp offers unforgettable safaris in the Okavango Delta, particularly for elephant lovers.
Stanley’s Camp is situated inside a private concession to the south of Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana's Okavango Delta. The concession Stanley’s Camp is located in comprises 260 000 acres of ever-changing savanna environment, as the yearly floods rise and fall. Stanley’s Camp is an unpretentious, intimate tented camp where every guest is treated as royalty. The spectacular main camp, with its high tented ceiling, is surrounded by ebony and sausage trees, providing extra shade and creating a striking frame for the surrounding landscape.
There are only eight accommodation units at Stanley’s Camp. Each luxury tent features an en suite bathroom with a shower, basin complete with wooden cabinet and mirror, and a flushing toilet that is separated by a canvas wall. Comfortable beds inside the tents are accompanied by electric lights on the bedside tables, desks, chairs, stationery and emergency radios. The raised wooden platform extends out onto a private deck featuring a hammock, chairs and a table. Ample wildlife may be observed form the perch of your deck.
Mealtimes are enjoyed at the main camp, on a table literally set in the delta, or out in the field with elephants. The main attractions of Stanley’s Camp are three orphaned elephants, who provide a truly unforgettable African experience. These gentle giants have been habituated to human interaction. Mornings can be spent with the elephants accompanied by trained and experienced elephant handlers Doug and Cathy Grove.
The chief activities at the camp are the traditional game drives that go out during the day and night in open 4x4 vehicles. Providing there is an adequate amount of water (typically between June and September), there is also the possibility of venturing out in a mokoro. A mokoro is a traditional dugout canoe and a wonderfully tranquil way to enjoy the spectacular surrounding scenery.
