Location & Setting
Onguma The Fort sits within the 34,000-hectare Onguma Nature Reserve on Etosha’s eastern fringe, overlooking open savanna dotted with camelthorn trees. The lodge’s elevated, Moorish-influenced design frames far-reaching views and spectacular sunsets. From this base you can explore Etosha National Park by day and return to a quieter, private reserve for sundowners and night ambience. The Fort is reached via good tar and gravel roads from Tsumeb or via scheduled/charter flights to nearby airstrips, making it an easy fit on most Namibia itineraries while still feeling wonderfully remote.
Rooms
The Fort offers 13 spacious, air-conditioned suites: eleven Bush Suites, one Honeymoon Suite and the grand Sultan Suite. Each is positioned for privacy and west-facing views, with a private veranda to watch wildlife and the sunset glow. Interiors layer natural stone and textured timbers with Moroccan accents, creating a calm, cool retreat in the desert heat. Expect generous beds with fine linens, indoor bathrooms with walk-in showers, and thoughtful touches like minibars and in-room safes. The top-tier suites add extra lounging space and elevated panoramas for an indulgent end to each safari day.
Facilities
Central areas include an expansive lounge, bar and indoor–outdoor dining spaces that flow onto a viewing deck and swimming pool. A curated wine cellar underpins multi-course dinners, while a small safari shop stocks essentials and local crafts. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in main areas. Guests can pre-book massage treatments for post-drive relaxation, and staff regularly set up scenic sundowner stops or private bush dinners on the reserve. A nearby water-level hide offers excellent low-angle viewing and photography without leaving the property’s surrounds—ideal during the green season when birdlife is at its best.
