Location & Setting
Onguma Tented Camp lies inside the 34,000-hectare Onguma Nature Reserve on Etosha’s eastern side, a short transfer from the Von Lindequist Gate. The camp’s tents and main areas are arranged around a permanent waterhole, so wildlife often wanders past throughout the day and evening. Being on a private reserve brings the bonus of guided activities—including night drives and walks—that are not permitted inside the national park. Etosha excursions remain easy, with the saline pans and productive waterholes reached on half- or full-day drives.
Rooms
Seven spacious, safari-chic tents offer king or twin beds, indoor stone baths with separate showers, and private decks oriented to the waterhole. Canvas, timber and natural textiles keep the aesthetic warm and understated, while practical comforts include air-conditioning, tea and coffee facilities, a mini-bar and complimentary Wi-Fi (typically strongest in public areas). Décor is intentionally minimalist to foreground the views and the wildlife soundtrack—expect giraffe at dusk, antelope by day, and the possibility of nocturnal visitors under the floodlights.
Facilities
The heart of camp is a relaxed lounge, bar and dining area flowing onto an expansive deck and an infinity pool with uninterrupted views of the waterhole. Photographers rate the nearby Onkolo hide for close encounters at eye level, and staff can arrange Etosha game drives as well as reserve activities. While Onguma offers spa treatments elsewhere on the reserve, Tented Camp itself focuses on quiet luxury and nature immersion rather than a full spa complex, which suits its intimate, adults-only character.
