Kwessi Dunes

Kwessi Dunes lies within the privately protected NamibRand Nature Reserve, a landscape of red dunes, gravel plains and distant inselberg mountains. The lodge looks out over vast, wildlife-frequented plains and sits within an area recognized as a Gold Tier International Dark Sky Reserve. Access is by lodge airstrip or via good gravel and tar roads from Swakopmund or Windhoek; the team runs full-day excursions to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei as an add-on. The camp comprises 12 chalets: 10 twin/doubles and 2 family units. Each air-conditioned suite has canvas walls beneath a high thatch roof, an en-suite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers, and a shaded veranda for views across the plains. A signature feature is the separate open-air ‘stargazer’ room at the back of each chalet—set up with a proper bed so you can sleep under the Milky Way. Practical touches include Wi-Fi availability, charging points and complimentary laundry; the look is simple, stylish and very desert-appropriate.

Central areas include a lounge and bar flowing to an expansive deck that overlooks the plains, plus a swimming pool for hot afternoons. Meals are served indoors and outdoors, with boma dinners on fair-weather evenings. The lodge offers spa treatments (additional cost) and is fully solar powered. Activities typically include morning and afternoon scenic drives, guided nature walks and quad biking within the reserve; day trips to Sossusvlei/Deadvlei and scenic flights or hot-air ballooning can be arranged with trusted partners.
