The Resort
Anantara sits on Ilha de Bazaruto, a 12 000-hectare island about 30 km off Mozambique’s mainland and protected since 1971 as part of the Bazaruto Archipelago National Park. The setting is classic Indian Ocean—sweeping dunes that slip into turquoise shallows, shifting sandbars and long beaches with minimal boat traffic. Guests typically fly to Vilanculos and transfer by boat or helicopter across the channel to the resort’s jetty or helipad. The broader marine sanctuary is renowned for rich pelagic life and one of East Africa’s last viable dugong populations.
Rooms
The resort offers 44 villas positioned along the coast, combining privacy with easy access to the beach and main facilities. Categories span Beach Villas, Sea View Pool Villas and larger two-bedroom options ideal for families. Interiors feature king beds, indoor–outdoor living, air-conditioning and generous bathrooms; many add private plunge pools and furnished decks for sunset views. In-villa amenities include minibars and complimentary Wi-Fi, while 24-hour assistance ensures comfort. Thoughtful layouts balance barefoot ease with refined finishes suited to both couples and multi-generational stays.
Facilities
Central facilities include an ocean-facing infinity pool, multiple dining venues with fully-inclusive meals and beverages, an award-winning Anantara Spa and a Technogym-equipped fitness center. A PADI dive center supports reef and specialty dives, while deep-sea charters target marlin on a tag-and-release basis. Non-motorized water sports—kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and snorkelling—are included, with dhow cruises offered at sunset. A private airstrip and helipad simplify access and scenic transfers. On land, guests can try dune boarding, tennis and gentle nature walks amid coastal forest.
