Xakanaxa Camp is ideal for both water- and land-based safaris in the Okavango Delta.
Xakanaxa Camp is set in the Okavango Delta - one of the finest safari areas in Botswana. The camp is one of the few camps that guests can visit throughout the year to experience game viewing on both land and water. With riverine forests, open savanna, seasonal floodplains, permanent lagoons and the Okavango Delta's network of channels, the camp is surrounded by water and beauty. Xakanaxa Camp was one of the first safari camps in Botswana.
Sticking to the original African theme, Xakanaxa ensures a comfortable stay in 12 safari tents on elevated platforms. The tents are situated right on the bank of the Khwai River and a private viewing deck offers spectacular views of the Xakanaxa Lagoon. Each room is en suite and has a sprinkler system that creates a cooling effect.
Decorated in the same African theme as the tents, the main lodge extends into the Khwai River, and surrounding decks ensure fantastic views. The building consists of a lounge, dining room and a small library. Under big Jackalberry trees is a fireplace where guests can socialize at night, with a roaring fire to set the mood. Guests can unwind in the plunge pool or just relax in the lazy ‘sala'.
There is a lovely dining room with reed walls as well as a bar with lit by romantic hurricane lamps, casting a warm glow over the camp. Xakanaxa's latest addition is the Owner's Cottage, and if you thought the rest of the camp was special, this cottage offers the ultimate in luxury and exclusivity. The cottage is elevated with a free-standing outdoor bathtub that looks out onto the Khwai River. The cottage also has its own plunge pool, viewing deck, lounge area and sala.
This region is considered to be one of Africa's finest game-viewing areas. The game drives allow one to encounter a diversity of vegetation, like mopane forests and lush grasslands. Sometimes the waterways can be crossed by vehicles and other times guests make use of rustic log bridges. Boat trips on the lagoon offer a striking alternative view and lead into the sinuous channels of the Delta - one of Africa's most spectacular natural wonders.
Guests fly to Maun from O R Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg and are then chartered to Xakanaxa Camp for their luxury safari in the legendary Okavango Delta. One of the first safari camps in Botswana, Xakanaxa offers an authentic African safari experience with both open 4x4 game drives and motorized cruises or mokoro-based canoeing on the wild channels of the delta.
