Location & Setting

Camp Okavango occupies Nxaragha Island in the heart of Botswana’s permanent Okavango Delta, surrounded by clear lagoons, papyrus- and reed-fringed channels, and wooded islands. The camp’s elevated timber walkways and decks keep you close to the water’s edge while mature trees provide dappled shade and frequent bird activity. Access is typically via light aircraft from Maun to a nearby airstrip, followed by a short transfer. With year-round water, the setting is ideal for mokoro and boat excursions, complemented by guided island walks that reveal tracks, flora, and the Delta’s subtler wildlife behaviors away from roads and vehicles.

Rooms

The camp hosts twenty-four guests in twelve East African–style safari tents raised on timber platforms and linked to the main areas by neat boardwalks. Each tent features an en-suite bathroom and a private deck oriented toward surrounding wilderness for quiet, between-activity relaxation. The intimate tent count supports attentive hosting and easy access to guides for planning each day. Stays typically include meals, local beverages, guided bush walks, and water-based activities, streamlining logistics so you can focus on the Delta’s wildlife and changing light.

Facilities

Central spaces include a lounge and dining area opening to broad viewing decks, with a convivial bar shaded by a venerable mangosteen tree as a natural gathering point. A swimming pool offers a cooling break in the warmer months, while a secluded bird hide and an elevated observation platform reward unhurried time with binoculars and camera. Hammocks invite lazy siestas between outings. Evenings often unfold alfresco, with relaxed hosting and Delta sounds close at hand. The layout emphasizes easy circulation, serene views over channels and floodplains, and a steady connection to the island’s wildlife and birdlife. Wi-Fi is available in the main lounge, though connectivity is limited due to the remote nature of the Delta.
