Okavango Delta

Characterized by unspoiled wilderness and lagoons, the Okavango Delta is one of the most spectacular conservation areas in Botswana . The habitat consists of palm trees, savanna grassland and forest glades. The area is home to a large number of mammal and bird species. Camp Okavango is situated in the middle of the Okavango Delta on the remote Nxaragha Island. It is surrounded by flood plains and channel systems.

24 guests can be accommodated in the East African-style safari tents. Each tent is stylishly decorated and features en suite facilities. The tents are raised from the ground with pathways connecting the units to the main lodge. The rooms all face the untouched wilderness, with private decks for relaxation. A well-stocked bar set under a giant Mangosteen tree offers a gathering place where guests and guides share stories of their wildlife encounters on safaris in Botswana .

The African safari activities on offer at Camp Okavango include gliding silently on the waterways of the delta in eco-friendly canoes. Thrilling game walks are conducted on islands in the delta. Here you can come into close contact with some of Africa's most impressive creatures. Guests may also enjoy a swim in the plunge pool or visit the secluded bird hide. Take an afternoon nap in a hammock in the shade of an ancient tree or gaze across the wilderness of Botswana from an elevated observation platform. For a unique and tranquil safari, Camp Okavango is the place to go.

Guests are flown to Maun via O R Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, then chartered to the distinguished natural marvel of the Okavango Delta for the beginning of their safari package. The wealth of game surrounding Camp Okavango may be admired on foot, from the elevated seat of an open 4x4 vehicle, the deck of a motorboat on the delta's silvery channels or the wooden bowel of a mokoro canoe for a truly authentic safari experience.

For guests seeking to learn more about the remarkable beasts that they met on safari, the lodge's library boasts a comprehensive wildlife reference section. Alternatively, opt for a drink with bite at the camp's cocktail bar or simmer down in the cool embrace of the pool. Dinner time is a starlit occasion, with the dining room extending out onto the patio and illuminated by the crackling glow of a log fire. This safari package offers tremendous game viewing in the folds of luxury.

Riaan's Review

My last visit to Camp Okavango was in April of 2012. The adventure begins as you board a small plane in either Maun or Kasane. From the air, the wilderness stretches out as far as the eye can see, and then its touchdown on the airstrip close to camp. Camp Okavango is located in the middle of nowhere, in one of the most magical locations. It is not luxurious - compared to South African lodges - but this tented camp is very comfortable, the staff highly capable and the entire experience unforgettable.
