Khwai River Big-Game Front Row, Moremi Next Door
Set on the banks of the Khwai River bordering Moremi, Khwai River Lodge blends classic tented comfort with flexible activities: day and night game drives in the community concession, guided walks and seasonal mokoro when water levels allow. With 14 tents and one private suite, a spa and a heated main pool, the camp looks over floodplains where elephant herds and predators move between the concession and the reserve—often in view from your deck.

Location & Setting
Khwai River Lodge sits among mature riverine trees on the Khwai River, a natural boundary with Moremi Game Reserve on the eastern Okavango. Floodplains, papyrus channels and mixed woodland concentrate wildlife year-round, making the riverfront one of northern Botswana’s most reliable game areas. The community-run Khwai concession allows flexible activities not permitted inside Moremi, while the reserve itself is close enough for rewarding day outings. Access is typically by light aircraft to Khwai airstrip from Maun or Kasane, followed by a short transfer to camp.
Rooms
Fourteen tented rooms are raised on wooden decks beneath thatch, oriented to the floodplains for breeze and views. Interiors pair canvas and hardwoods with creature comforts: real beds with fine linens, an en-suite bathroom with hot shower and flush toilet, a writing desk and tea/coffee station; many tents add outdoor bathing. Each has a large private deck with easy chairs or a hammock for armchair game viewing. A single private suite ups the privacy and adds a rim-flow plunge pool and generous lounge space.
Facilities
Central areas include a comfortable lounge and bar opening to a broad deck over the river, a dining room for plated or al fresco meals, and a heated main swimming pool for midday cool-offs. A small spa offers in-room treatments, and an observation deck with telescope is ideal for stargazing or scanning the floodplain between drives. Activity timing follows best wildlife hours—early mornings and late afternoons—with night drives offered in the concession after dinner when conditions and sightings align.
