Detailed Luxury Honeymoon Itinerary: 14 Day Cape & Wildlife Honeymoon

Day 1-4: Cape Town

Overnight: V&A Hotel
Meals: Breakfast

Highlights

  • Strolling the lively V&A Waterfront with harbor and mountain views.
  • Easy access to Cape Town attractions, beaches and Table Mountain.
  • Romantic sunsets over Table Bay from waterfront restaurants and promenades.

When you arrive in Cape Town, an African Sky representative holding a sign with your name will greet you in the arrivals hall. From here, you are transferred to your hotel on Cape Town’s famous Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, one of the most popular destinations in South Africa and an ideal base for exploring the city. The waterfront setting combines working harbor views, mountain vistas and an easy, walkable layout. The Victoria & Alfred Hotel sits in the heart of the precinct, close to the Two Oceans Aquarium, harbor cruises and shopping.

The central location in Cape Town means most attractions and activities are within walking distance or only a short drive from your accommodation. The Waterfront offers a wide range of restaurants and hundreds of shops, as well as an impressive aquarium and various sunset and harbor boat cruises. The city center is about a fifteen-minute walk away, while the cable car base station for Table Mountain and the beach at Camps Bay are roughly ten to fifteen minutes by vehicle, traffic depending. This mix of convenience and scenery makes it easy to settle into the rhythm of your honeymoon from the very first day.

Note

Guests spend three nights at the V&A Hotel, with breakfast included.

Private Cape Peninsula Tour

Please communicate with us before your arrival which day of your stay you would like to enjoy a private day trip along the Cape Peninsula. On that morning, you will be met at 8 am in the hotel lobby by an African Sky guide who will accompany you to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and Cape Point, with a visit to Boulders Beach on the return journey. You will typically be back at the hotel around 4 pm.

Day 5-7: Winelands

Overnight: Leeu House
Meals: Breakfast

Highlights

  • Exploring historic Winelands towns framed by dramatic mountain scenery.
  • Visiting working wine estates with cellar tours and guided tastings.
  • Dining at Franschhoek’s acclaimed restaurants and relaxed village cafés.

On the first day of your stay in the Winelands, you will enjoy a guided tour with one of African Sky’s guides. The guide meets you at 9 am in your hotel lobby, and from here a drive of about 45 minutes leads to Stellenbosch, South Africa’s second-oldest town. An hour is devoted to exploring the historic center, which offers fine examples of Cape Dutch, Victorian and Georgian architecture beautifully displayed under ancient oak trees. Afterwards, you visit two wineries on the Stellenbosch Wine Route, where a local expert provides insight into the winemaking process and you have the opportunity to sample some of the region’s most highly regarded wines.

One of the estates often featured is L’Ormarins, a large and picturesque property set at the foot of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains. Here, the tasting focuses on the Cap Classique range, South African sparkling wines crafted in the traditional French method. A visit is also made to the Franschhoek Motor Museum on the estate, where more than two hundred vehicles are displayed in climate-controlled halls, showcasing over a century of automotive history. The tour then continues to your overnight destination in Franschhoek. This quaint town, surrounded by mountains and vineyards, offers many award-winning restaurants, art galleries, antique shops and outdoor activities such as hiking, horse riding and mountain biking, along with some of the finest wine tasting in South Africa.

Note

Three nights are spent at Leeu House on a bed-and-breakfast basis.

Day 8-9: Mpumalanga Lowveld

Overnight: Highgrove House
Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

Highlights

  • Unwinding at a tranquil Lowveld farm surrounded by orchards and gardens.
  • Walking forest trails with rewarding Lowveld birdlife and gentle scenery.
  • Indulging in spa treatments and intimate gourmet dinners at Highgrove.

After breakfast, guests are transferred to Cape Town International Airport for a flight to Mbombela (Nelspruit). On arrival you are met and transferred to the charming Highgrove House, set on a working farm that produces macadamia nuts and avocados between White River and Hazyview. The original farmstead, dating back to the late nineteenth century, has been carefully renovated and now anchors a gracious country-house retreat with sweeping valley views, manicured gardens and a calm, romantic atmosphere.

Many hiking trails wind through the estate’s lush indigenous forests and cultivated orchards, where birdwatching is particularly rewarding. Highgrove also offers a spa with a selection of massage therapies and beauty treatments, together with a fine-dining restaurant renowned for its gourmet cuisine and candlelit dinners. Optional activities available in the area, which can be booked with reception, include panoramic tours to nearby mountains and landmarks along the Panorama Route, where you will encounter waterfalls, deep valleys and sweeping Lowveld vistas that provide a dramatic backdrop to your honeymoon journey.

Note

Guests spend two nights at Highgrove House, with breakfast and dinner included.

Day 10-13: Private Kruger Park Concession

Overnight: Jock Safari Lodge
Meals: Full Board

Highlights

  • Twice-daily Big Five game drives in a private Kruger concession.
  • Sundowner stops in scenic spots as the African evening sky glows.
  • Romantic time together on your private deck and plunge pool.

Guests are met at 10 am for a transfer to Jock Safari Lodge, which sits on a 6,000-hectare private concession in the south-western Kruger National Park at the confluence of the Mitomeni and Biyamiti rivers. This historic concession was one of the first private areas within Kruger and remains one of its finest game-viewing regions. Each suite features a private deck and plunge pool overlooking the riverbed or surrounding bush, creating an intimate setting for sharing special moments in the heart of the wilderness.

While staying at the lodge, you enjoy early-morning and late-afternoon open 4x4 safari excursions in the company of a skilled ranger. These drives immerse you in the bush and bring you close to the diverse wildlife and birdlife that inhabit this corner of Africa, including the Big Five. During the late-afternoon drive, you stop at a carefully chosen spot for sundowners while watching the sun sink over the savanna. As darkness falls, the drive continues using spotlights to search for nocturnal animals such as lions, leopards, hyenas and other elusive species. Afterward, guests return to the lodge for a superb dinner, often enjoyed under starry African skies.

Note

Guests spend three nights at Jock Safari Lodge on a full-board basis.

Day 14: Departure

Overnight: None
Meals: Breakfast

Highlights

  • Final sunrise game drive searching for any remaining elusive wildlife.
  • Farewell breakfast listening to birds and distant river sounds.
  • Quiet reflection on two weeks of shared city, wine and safari.

A last morning game drive is devoted to finding any animals that may still be on your wish list, with the cool hours after sunrise often producing especially rewarding sightings. You then return to the lodge for a relaxed breakfast and a final chance to savor the sounds and scents of the bush from your deck. After checking out, it is time to say farewell to Jock Safari Lodge and the private concession that has been your safari home for the past few nights.

Following breakfast and goodbyes to the staff, you are transferred to Skukuza Airport for your flight to Johannesburg. As you travel back towards the city, you can reflect on the diversity of your journey: vibrant days in Cape Town, elegant Winelands landscapes, quiet Lowveld farm stays and immersive Big Five safaris in Kruger. Your Cape and Wildlife honeymoon formally ends on arrival in Johannesburg, but the memories and shared experiences will remain long after you return home.
