The Cape Winelands tour focuses on the country's primary wine-producing region around the towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.
South Africa's winelands are internationally renowned for producing some of the worlds finest wines. This short private tour of the region focusses on the historical towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek and visits some of the finest wineries in the area.
Guests are met at any location of their choice in Cape Town. From here the tour makes its way to Somerset West, set on the slopes of the Helderberg with sweeping views of False Bay in the distance. We visit Vergelegen, one of the grandest wine estates in South Africa. Vergelegen has been producing quality wines for over three hundred years. Guests enjoy an introduction to wine making and have the opportunity to sample some of South Africa's finest wines on the tour of Vergelegen. Upon completion of the visit, the tour makes its way to Stellenbosch , where the guide points out some of the most notable attractions in the second oldest town in South Africa. During the afternoon we visit another historic wine farm in the region before retiring to the overnight destination.
Franschhoek and the wine route surrounding this fine town are the focus of this day of your Cape Winelands tour. The town is set in the Franschhoek Valley in South Africa's food and wine heartland. We devote some time to visiting the monument erected in memory of the French Huguenots, who brought their winemaking skills to the valley in centuries past. A visit is then made to two of the finest wine estates in the area to experience first-hand the process by which grapes are transformed into the noble drink. Guests also have the opportunity to sample some of the fine wines, as well as cheeses made in the traditional way.
From Franschhoek, the tour travels west through the town of Wellington on to Darling. The wine route surrounding Darling was first introduced to the public in 2004. It has, however, become incredibly popular for the fine quality and exceptional value of the wines produced in the region. A visit is made to one of these wine producers before a short reconnaissance of the town. The town is renowned as being a cultural and artistic hub, with some of the most well-known artists in the area exhibiting their works here. The visit to Darling is followed by a journey of about an hour to Cape Town, where guests are dropped off at any location of their choice.
