Location & Setting

Ongava Lodge sits within the private Ongava Game Reserve on Etosha’s southern boundary, a short drive from Andersson (Ombika) Gate. Its hillside position looks over open plains and a wildlife-frequented, floodlit waterhole, delivering rewarding viewing between activities. Being on a private reserve adds flexibility—guides can conduct walks and night drives on Ongava—while Etosha’s famed pans and network of waterholes are easily reached on daytime excursions. Access is straightforward by road via Outjo and Andersson Gate or by light aircraft to the reserve’s airstrip with short road transfers to the lodge.

Rooms

The lodge features 14 rock-and-thatch chalets, including one two-bedroom family unit. Interiors are airy and practical for the climate, with en-suite bathrooms that typically include double basins and both indoor and outdoor showers. Each chalet opens to a private deck angled toward the plains or waterhole. Comforts generally include air-conditioning, overhead fans, tea and coffee facilities, a hairdryer and 220V power. Rooms prioritize outlook and privacy, making the deck a favored spot for quiet game viewing between guided activities.

Facilities

Central spaces flow around a thatched dining area, bar and split-level lounge leading to broad viewing decks facing the waterhole. A swimming pool offers a midday cool-off, and a small spa service is available—typically massage treatments arranged on site or in-room. The reserve also features viewing hides for close-quarters photography when conditions allow. Activities are split between Ongava (walks, rhino tracking, night drives) and Etosha (day drives), giving a rounded experience while staying based at the lodge.
