Orpen Rest Camp, on the western border of the Kruger National Park , lies at the Orpen Gate, the gateway to the central regions of the park. It is said that the natural sweet grass of the area attracts the grazing animals, which in turn attracts the predators, such as cheetah, lion and leopard. Orpen Rest Camp can thus be the perfect first stop during a Kruger safari and initiation into the interaction between African wildlife.

Orpen Rest Camp offers 17 cottages with two or three beds and a communal kitchen and ablution facilities. Alternatively, those looking for more luxury during their Kruger safari can opt for the three larger guest cottages. These newer units have their own en suite bathrooms and are fitted with air-conditioning.

Guests have excellent facilities at their disposal, such as the restaurant, well-stocked store, swimming pool and cafeteria. Activities include game drive, both during the day and at night, and game walks, all guided by experienced field guides. The watering hole, just outside the fence of Orpen Rest Camp, provides the opportunity for all to observe game coming in to drink.

Riaan's Review

Orpen is a small and intimate rest camp located not far from Hoedspruit Airport. The accommodations are of a high standard when compared to other Kruger National Park camps. It is very important to note that the camp does not have a restaurant and that you should only overnight here if you intend to do self-catering.
