Shumba Camp is set in the breathtaking Busanga Plains of Zambia's Kafue National Park.
A tree island on the vast Busanga Plains shields Shumba Camp from the harsh Zambian sun. The Busanga Plains are generally regarded to be the jewel of Kafue, Zambia's oldest national park, and at roughly the size of Wales, one of Africa's largest wildlife sanctuaries.
Shumba Camp consists of six luxurious tented suites built on wooden decks. Each unit is en suite and all have both indoor as well as outdoor showers. The camp's central areas lie beneath the protection of ancient fig trees. From here guests can enjoy gazing across these seemingly endless African plains, admiring the many rare antelope endemic to the region and, of course, the predator species to which they provide sustenance.
Activities on offer at Shumba include daily and nightly open 4x4 safaris focused on interpretive game viewing. On these safaris you are likely to spot vast herds of buffalo, wildebeest and lechwe. These plains also provide habitat to rare antelope like puku and roan. Lion and cheetah are the predators most frequently spotted.
In addition to the daily game drives, boat rides on the channels of the region can be enjoyed during the beginning of the season when flood waters still reside on the plains. From Shumba, guests can also enjoy one of the most exclusive hot air ballooning safaris in Africa.
