Skeleton Coast Cabins Amid Dunes & Atlantic Mist
Set where the Namib Desert meets the Atlantic, Shipwreck Lodge delivers one of Namibia’s most distinctive stays: shipwreck-inspired cabins, far-horizon dune and ocean views, and guided outings that reveal seal colonies, wind-carved “clay castles,” and stark, photogenic coastline. It’s remote, restorative, and unforgettable.

Location & Setting
Shipwreck Lodge sits on pale dunes within Skeleton Coast National Park, where Atlantic rollers meet the Namib’s shifting sands. Rusted hulls and bleached whale bones hint at a dramatic maritime past, while fog banks and desert light create moody, ever-changing scenes. Guided excursions run to Möwe Bay’s seal colony and inland along the Hoarusib River to the sculpted “clay castles.” The lodge’s isolation is part of its charm: few vehicles, huge skies, and horizons that seem to stretch forever.
Rooms
Ten cabins—eight twins and two family units—are elevated on low decks to protect the fragile dune ecosystem and maximize views. Each features a private veranda, en-suite bathroom with hot/cold running water, and thoughtful cold-coast comforts (heaters, plush bedding). Interiors nod to nautical forms without sacrificing practicality: good storage, easy charging, and blackout for long coastal dawns. Family cabins add space for small groups, while all units keep the focus on the scenery—misty mornings rolling in from the Atlantic and sunlit dunes by afternoon.
Facilities
The main lodge gathers guests around a lounge, bar, and dining space that opens to an ocean-facing deck—ideal for calm mornings and golden, wind-softened evenings. Expect fireside snacks and story-swapping after activities, with Wi-Fi available in central areas. Day plans often include beach picnics, scenic sundowners, and flexible desert drives; conditions permitting, the team adds dune boarding or quad biking. The emphasis is on slow travel: strong guiding, simple comforts, and time to absorb one of Africa’s most remote coastlines.
