Hansa Hotel is a classic old building surrounded by gigantic dunes under a clear desert sky in the little town of Swakopmund. The region which surrounds this Namibian coastal town has some of the highest dunes in the world, with Dune 7 measuring approximately 383m. The name 'Hansa' is derived from an old German word meaning; “a meeting place for overseas travelers" - the ideal destination for a safari in Namibia.
The hotel has 58 individually decorated rooms and suites that provide luxury accommodation for travelers. Five of these units are family rooms, well-suited to those enjoying a safari with children. The Hansa Hotel has two suites and two executive suites, each with its own private lounge. All rooms and suites are en suite with underfloor heating and stylish decor. Cocktail parties and other functions are normally held in the Marble and Equestrian rooms or the Red Lounge for some extra entertainment.
The hotel has two restaurants, a bar and private lounge. The terrace has a view of the inside garden and is the perfect place to enjoy dinners and banquets. After dinner, take a stroll to the resident bar with its large fireplace and great selection of beverages. Hansa Hotel boasts a secluded garden courtyard, shielded from the elements, where guests can socialize unhindered by the Namib Desert wind.
Swakopmund is one of my favorite coastal towns. Its prevalent German character blended with the cultures of Southern Africa have created a most remarkable town. There is no finer place in Swakopmund to stay or experience this unique interaction between the past and the present than at Hansa Hotel. The hotel has hosted dignitaries and travelers to the area for over 100 years. I can definitely recommend a stay at Hansa to anyone visiting Swakopmund in Namibia.
