Walkersons Hotel is found a few miles from the quaint highland village of Dullstroom. The village lies in the rolling hills of South Africa's Mpumalanga Province. The area is endowed with valleys which are scattered with small dams and watercourses. Fly fishing for the rainbow and brown trout are amongst the most popular activities in the area.
The hotel has 23 rooms. Each room has either a lake or mountain view. The rooms have private patios and fireplaces and are equipped with full en suite bathrooms. Mealtimes are a taste explosion. Enjoy a delicious English breakfast on the sunny patio overlooking the dam or a well-prepared dinner in the cozy dining room. The hotel's chef will gladly pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at any idyllic spot on the estate. A bottle of wine is included to toast the lovely scenery and your holiday.
On the estate are several trout dams connected to mountain streams. These dams offer fantastic fly-fishing spots. On a hot day, guests can laze around the pool while enjoying the sounds of nature. The hotel has a gym, spa facilities as well as hiking and horse trails.
I have stayed at Walkersons on many occasions over a long period of time and have always found the experience to be relaxing. The tranquil setting, the marvelous views and the gentle country pursuits bring a sense of serenity to the soul. Walkersons is located roughly halfway between Johannesburg and the private safari lodges that form part of the Kruger National Park. This makes it the ideal venue to spend a couple of nights on an overland tour before enjoying a safari. I recommend Walkersons to all who enjoy relaxing outdoors.
