Birkenhead House is situated in the coastal town of Hermanus in the Western Cape. It is in an area known as the Overberg, roughly an hour and a half from Cape Town. Hermanus is famous for being one of the finest destinations in the world for land-based whale watching and is one of South Africa's premier seaside resorts.
No effort was spared while decorating the interior of the hotel or rooms. This boutique hotel offers eleven sumptuous suites, all including en suite bathrooms with a separate bath and shower. Rooms are also air-conditioned and fitted with flat-screen televisions and DVD players. The Deluxe Superior and Superior rooms offer sea views, comfort, and style. The smaller Luxury and Standard rooms are slightly less extravagant but still fit for a King. World-class cuisine is served at the Birkenhead House Restaurant.
Seafood served depends on what is in season and available and can range from marlin to Cape salmon. Fresher mussels cannot be found, as they are plucked right off the rocks in front of the hotel. The menus and meals are designed around the preferences of every individual guest. There are plenty of activities in the surrounding area to keep you busy, like shark cage diving in nearby Gansbaai. More discerning travelers may sample some of the finest wines on the surrounding wine farms.
