South Africa boasts an incredibly dazzling diversity of national parks and private game reserves for exceptional safari experiences.
There are so many illustrious lodges, renowned private game reserves and national parks in South Africa alone, selecting a destination for your safari can be somewhat overwhelming. Our tailor-made South African safaris mean that we will assist you in hand-picking a particular conservation area or safari lodge (or a combination of a few) that fits your particular requirements.
The Greater Kruger National Park is on the top of the list of our recommend safari areas. The park really just offers unparalleled diversity, extraordinary sightings and a variety of accommodation options to choose from. It is one of only a handful of safari areas that we offer private overland safaris to, due to its fine infrastructure and the high frequency of animal encounters. If you’d prefer a private safari lodge experience, you’re still spoilt for choice. The private concessions in the park and the private game reserves that make up the Greater Kruger – like Sabi Sand and Timbavati – offer lodges across the spectrum, from basic four star to extravagant five star.
If you are traveling with young children who are unable to take anti-malarial prophylactics, South Africa boasts a variety of prime Big Five safari areas where malaria is not prevalent. In the North West province, you will find the Madikwe and Pilanesberg game reserves. Madikwe is geared at luxury family safaris, while Pilanesberg is a bit more budget-friendly. In the south, accessed via Port Elizabeth Airport in the Eastern Cape, Shamwari Private Game Reserve enjoys a deserved reputation as one of the finest destinations for a family safari. Addo Elephant National Park has also expanded in recent years to include private lodgings beyond the standard rest camp accommodation available, adding to the Eastern Cape’s esteemed safari portfolio.
Should you find yourself returning to South Africa for an alternative safari experience, or are looking to combine something ‘different’ with your visit to the Kruger National Park, then KwaZulu-Natal’s indelibly unique reserves, like Hluhluwe-iMfolozi and Phinda, will offer a very special safari experience. Natal is lush and green, with an almost sub-tropical climate, providing a completely distinct backdrop to your game viewing.

If you're traveling with small children, it may be a better idea to visit one of South Africa's esteemed malaria-free reserves, like Shamwari, Madikwe, Pilanesberg or Addo. If you are looking for an authentic safari experience and prolific game viewing, then the Greater Kruger National Park (including its private game reserves) is you best bet.
This depends largely on how many safari areas you would like to include in your tailor-made package. Due to distances between destinations and the inability to guarantee sightings, we would recommend a minimum of two nights if you are exploring more than one reserve, and minimum three nights if you have only one stop on your safari itinerary.
For great value, affordability and flexibility, a private overland safari with an experienced African Sky guide is your best bet. You can also seamlessly combine your safari experience with local tour elements. For discerning travelers looking for luxury and premium quality game viewing, a fly-in safari package will prove more rewarding.
