Overview

The crater of a long-extinct volcano forms the setting Pilanesberg National Park. The park is adjacent to the famous Sun City Resort and offers Big Five game viewing. The luxurious Tshukudu Bush Lodge (Tshukudu is Tswana word for rhinoceros) is built on a hilltop with spectacular views of the reserve. The elevated position of the lodge offers exceptional game viewing opportunities.

The lodge can accommodate only 12 people in six en suite cottages. Each cottage has its own private balcony with magnificent views of the surrounding bushveld. The cottages consist of a bedroom, en suite bathroom and an open plan lounge with a fireplace. This lodge is the perfect place to get away from it all. There are no television sets - just the calming sounds of nature. The lodge is equipped with a swimming pool.

Tshukudu can only be accessed with a game drive vehicle from Bakubung Bush Lodge, ensuring an intimate and very private experience. A full English brunch is served after working up an appetite during the early morning game drive. Later in the afternoon a traditional high tea, accompanied by snacks, is served before the open 4x4 safari. Dinner is typically enjoyed under the star-studded African sky.

Riaan's Review

My first visit to Tshukudu was almost a decade ago and I must say that a fine South African safari can be enjoyed from a base at Tshukudu Lodge. The Pilanesberg National Park is not the grandest of South Africa's national parks, but the area is home to the Big Five and the topography of the region and the habitats - created in what is mostly a long-extinct volcano - are quite alluring. The lodge offers sweeping views of the surrounding area, luxury accommodation and well-prepared cuisine.
