Tshukudu Bush Lodge

Tshukudu Bush Lodge occupies a rocky ridge on its own private concession within Pilanesberg National Park, about a two-hour drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria. Guests check in at Bakubung for a scheduled transfer to the lodge, followed by 132 steps to reach the main deck and chalets. The elevated position overlooks a waterhole and the park’s concentric hills—remnants of an ancient volcanic crater—creating expansive game-viewing from the lodge itself. Pilanesberg is one of South Africa’s few Big Five wilderness areas that is malaria-free, making it a convenient, year-round safari choice.

Accommodation comprises ten units—six Luxury Chalets and four larger Suites—sleeping a maximum of about twenty guests. All feature private decks with far-reaching views and fireplaces for cool evenings; Suites add extra living space and upgraded finishes. Bathrooms are en suite, and layouts typically include a lounge area with king-size bedding. The lodge maintains a quiet, adults-oriented atmosphere with no children under 12. Expect limited mobile reception and no televisions by design, encouraging an immersive bush experience, while complimentary Wi-Fi is available in rooms or public areas depending on coverage.

Days follow a classic rhythm: early-morning game drive, hearty brunch, relaxed afternoons by the rock-side plunge pool, high tea, and an afternoon drive, with five-course dinners served in the dining room, on the deck, or in a lantern-lit boma. A bar and lounge anchor the main area, and Wi-Fi is available for essential connectivity. The lodge focuses on tranquility and nature immersion—there are no televisions, and cell coverage can be patchy. Scheduled transfers operate via Bakubung, and the final approach includes a significant stair climb, rewarding guests with spectacular crater-rim views.
