Day 1: Arrival / Livingstone

Meals: Dinner

Highlights

  • Scenic viewpoints showcasing the Zambian side of Victoria Falls.
  • Stay at Tongabezi Lodge on the banks of the Zambezi River.
  • Guided introduction to the history and natural setting of Victoria Falls.

Guests are met at any location of their choice in Johannesburg or Pretoria and transferred to the airport for their scheduled flight to Livingstone, Zambia. On arrival, you are welcomed by a local representative and transferred to Tongabezi Lodge, set on the banks of the Zambezi River upstream of Victoria Falls. The lodge’s tranquil river setting offers a peaceful introduction to this iconic region, with views over the broad, slow-moving waters of the Zambezi.

After settling in, there is time to relax and enjoy the lodge’s serene surroundings before departing for your first visit to the mighty Victoria Falls. A network of paths and viewpoints reveals different perspectives of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the Zambezi plunges into the gorge below in a dramatic display of spray and sound.

Depending on the season, you may feel the cooling mist from the “Smoke that Thunders” or see sections of the rock face exposed in the drier months, offering varied photographic opportunities. You return to the lodge in the early evening for dinner and a relaxed first night on the Zambezi.

Day 2: Livingstone

Overnight: Tongabezi Lodge
Meals: Full Board

Highlights

  • Panoramic viewpoints from the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls.
  • Visit to the iconic Victoria Falls Bridge and Batoka Gorge.
  • Relaxing sunset cruise on the upper Zambezi River.

After breakfast at the lodge, you depart for a visit to the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls, which offers a broader, more panoramic perspective of this natural wonder. A series of well-positioned viewpoints provide sweeping vistas across the Main Falls, Horseshoe Falls, and Rainbow Falls, often regarded as the most complete view of the waterfall system.

Following your visit to the falls, you continue to the historic Victoria Falls Bridge, where there is an opportunity to take in views of the Batoka Gorge below. Time permitting, a visit to the nearby curio market offers an opportunity to browse locally made crafts.

You return to Zambia in the early afternoon, with time to relax at the lodge and enjoy lunch at leisure. Later in the day, a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River offers a peaceful close to the day, with the chance to spot wildlife along the riverbanks as the light softens into evening.

Highlights

  • Guided elephant encounter with experienced handlers.
  • Insights into elephant behavior and local conservation efforts.

The resident herd is cared for by experienced handlers, who share information about elephant behavior, the individual animals and local conservation efforts. The activity provides an opportunity to observe these remarkable animals at close range while learning more about the challenges facing elephant populations in the region.

After returning to the lodge, there is time to relax before visiting a traditional Leya village and local craft market. A local guide introduces you to aspects of Leya culture, community life and the area’s long history. There is also an opportunity to browse locally made crafts before returning to Tongabezi Lodge for the remainder of the afternoon and evening.
