Once you've arrived in Johannesburg and cleared customs and immigration, a representative from African Sky will be waiting for you as you enter the arrivals hall. First, we'll take care of a few formalities, and as an experienced guide, our representative will gladly answer any questions. Once formalities are completed, you'll be escorted to the appropriate departure terminal, where you'll be assisted in boarding a local flight to Richards Bay.

You'll be met and transferred to Phinda Private Game Reserve. The reserve is located in the lush northern part of KwaZulu-Natal on South Africa’s east coast, deep in the heart of a dry sand forest. It borders the Greater St Lucia or iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a unique ecological region of South Africa and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At Phinda Vlei Lodge you settle into your suite overlooking open wetlands and forest, with your first evening game drive introducing you to the reserve’s wildlife-rich landscapes.

At Phinda, seven distinct habitats host abundant wildlife, including Africa's Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and Cape buffalo – and over 380 bird species. At the same time, the marine diversity along the nearby coast of Sodwana is said to rival Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. This northern part of Zululand was once a wild and unexplored place, a hunting ground to successive Zulu kings and teeming with wildlife of every description, including many rarer and less easily encountered species such as the cheetah, black rhino, nyala, and red duiker.

Guests spend three nights at Phinda Vlei Lodge on a full-board basis. Your stay includes three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, refreshments on game drives, laundry, and one-hour nature walks guided by experienced armed trackers (subject to availability). Emergency medical evacuation insurance is also included. Two game drives are included daily and are conducted by a professional ranger and tracker. Game drives occur during periods of increased activity – the early morning, late afternoon, and evening. The remainder of your day may be spent enjoying the creature comforts of your luxurious accommodations or relaxing by the pool while listening to the bush.

After a last morning activity at Phinda, you'll say goodbye to your hosts as your transfer arrives. Traveling north, you'll embark on an adventurous journey towards the southern Mozambican border with South Africa, passing through the large tribal lands of northern KwaZulu-Natal. After clearing immigration at Kosi Bay, you'll be warmly welcomed by the White Pearl Resorts team, who will transfer you along the last stretch to the lodge on a sandy 4x4 road. You'll arrive in Ponta Mamoli around lunchtime and be assisted with check-in.

Your days at White Pearl are devoted to rest, relaxation, or island-style pursuits. Activities such as an ocean safari, snorkeling from the beach, tracking turtles (seasonal), horse riding, a beach picnic, or a cultural tour are included in your stay. Spa treatments and scuba diving are also available at an additional cost, allowing you to tailor your time between adventure and indulgent downtime.

White Pearl Resorts is home to one of southern Mozambique's richest turtle nesting sites. Between November and February, loggerhead and leatherback turtles head to this stretch of coast to lay their eggs, with conservation teams monitoring and protecting them. As you stroll along the wide, quiet beaches, you may notice protected nests or even, if you are fortunate and in season, turtles coming ashore under the stars. Guests spend three nights at White Pearl Resort on a full-board basis.

After a relaxed final breakfast overlooking the dunes and ocean, you have the morning free to soak up the last of Mozambique’s sunshine. Take a final stroll along the wide sandy beach, enjoy a quick swim in the warm Indian Ocean, or simply linger by the pool while the team handles your luggage and prepares you for departure.

In the late morning or early afternoon you will be transferred by 4x4 to Maputo Airport in time to check in for your flight to Johannesburg. On arrival in South Africa’s largest city, an airport representative can assist with the connection to your onward international flight, bringing an intimate week of safari and beach romance to a gentle close.
