A Coastal Layout among the Dunes
There are few tall trees to shelter a poorly judged shot. The fairways bend through low dunes and indigenous Strandveld vegetation, which can make the correct line from the tee difficult to identify at first glance. Sandy ground permits a running approach when conditions are firm. The landing areas can look spacious, although a ball finishing among the fynbos is often difficult to recover.
The club offers five tee options, allowing visitors to choose a manageable length. A driving range, pro shop and golf academy provide practice facilities. The course is around 500 meters from the beach, with a restaurant and deli at the clubhouse for those who wish to remain after the round. The tees carry names drawn from wildlife found on the estate. Springbok can sometimes be seen near the fairways, along with birdlife adapted to the coastal vegetation. Their presence is part of the setting, and animals should be given plenty of space.
How the Wind Alters the Round
A strong southeaster can turn a modest par four into a demanding two-shot hole. On the return, the same wind may help a drive travel farther than expected. Low shots and well-judged running approaches become useful on exposed stretches; players also need to consider how the ball will behave after landing on firm ground.
Wind direction deserves attention throughout the round. A high approach can drift away from the intended side of a green, and the fynbos restricts the possibilities for recovery. The course has been modified over the years, although its original links-style character remains recognizable.
Playing Atlantic Beach from Cape Town
Melkbosstrand is reached by following the coast north from central Cape Town. Travel time depends on traffic, particularly on weekdays. Autumn frequently brings less severe wind, while summer mornings can be preferable to afternoons.
