South Africa Self Drive

The South African self drive tours provided by African Sky, can be enjoyed in most regions of the country. Cape Town, the Cape Winelands and the Garden Route, are areas that lend themselves specifically well to a self drive tour. In combination with these areas we also offer self drive tours, which combine the Cape and Kruger areas. Other South African self drive tour destinations which are easily accessible, include the Pilanesberg National Park and Sun City.

Safari areas which are easily accessible on a self drive basis include the Kruger National Park, as well as Pilanesberg in the northern part of South Africa. In the southern part of the country the Addo Elephant Park provides easy access and good infra-structure. There are also various smaller National Parks and Private Game Reserves, which are easily accessible on a self drive safari. Upon receiving a request, our able team will provide you with options and suggestions.

In addition to the South African Self Drive Tours and Safaris we are also able to assist with African self drive holidays, in the countries of Namibia, Botswana and Zambia. When planning a self drive holiday in these areas, it is very important that clients understand the distances and conditions involved. It is also very important that you realize shops, gas stations and other necessary services, are often great distances apart and that you will need to carry everything you might need with you.

We advise clients interested in a self drive holiday in either Namibia or Botswana, to start the planning a year in advance and to finalize any bookings which might be necessary, no later than eight months prior to arrival.

From 2012 onwards African Sky will be offering a Twenty One Day 4x4 Expedition, where clients self drive one of our 4x4 vehicles in a convoy of between eight and ten vehicles.

This expedition will start in Pretoria, from where it will make its way north to the wilderness areas of Botswana, before visiting the Victoria Falls and then crossing the Caprivi strip in the north of Namibia, before venturing on to Etosha and the Namib desert. South Africa will be re-entered in the Northern Cape,m where a quick visit to the Augrabies Falls and the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park, will be followed by a return journey to Pretoria. The journey will be led by one of our guides in a 4x4 vehicle.
