Safaris in the Kruger Park

Kruger National Park Safaris offer guests the opportunity of experiencing one of the worlds foremost conservation areas, encompassing a total of just over 2 million hectares excluding the current expansion of the park into neighboring Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

The Kruger Park which stretches 350km from north to south and between 50 and 70km from east to west is home to 147 species of mammals , more than 500 species of bird, 114 species of reptile and more than 200 species of butterfly have been documented.

When planing a Kruger Park Safari their are serveral different options to consider in terms of accommodation and transportation:

Accommodation when staying in the Kruger Park
There are twelve camps in the Kruger National Park which are owned and operated by the South African National Parks board. The accommodation in these camps normally consist of bungalows with en suite bathrooms and air conditioning. Each of the units are serviced daily. Most of the camps offer a la carte restaurants and although these camps are not luxurious as the private lodges it offers a comfortable stay in the heart of the South African wilderness

Private Game Reserves which form part of the Greater Kruger National Park:
The most notable of the private game reserves which form part of Kruger are the Sabi Sand , Timbavati and the Claserie . Each of these reserves stretch over vast tracts of land which is privately owned . In each of the private game reserves there are a great number of private lodges which offer a variety of accommodation options ranging from basic camps to super luxury lodges that offer only the finest in terms of service accommodations and meals.

Options for getting to Kruger:
Kruger is access able overland from Johannesburg and Pretoria ( a drive of about 5 hrs) the Park is also served by the airports of Nelspruit in the South and Hoedspruit towards the center. Most of the private game lodges are served by charter flights to air strips at or close to the lodge daily.
