African Safari Travel

The African safaris offered by African Sky include the most exciting and breathtaking wilderness areas stretched across the southern slice of Africa. From the riverine beauty of the Okavango Delta to remarkable tracts of sweeping grassland and mopane woodland in the Kruger National Park, the wealth of wildlife that roams these regions will ensure awe-inspiring sightings throughout your safari.

With so many exciting destinations to choose from, safari enthusiasts will be spoiled for choice. The Kruger National Park is generally considered a 'bucket list' attraction. The park's remarkable diversity of wildlife, impressive size, fine infrastructure and variety of accommodation options makes it quite popular, and with good reason.

For seasoned travelers, more remote safari experiences are available in Botswana, Namibia and Zambia. Because of their far-flung nature, many of these lodges tend to be a bit on the expensive side. However, upon arrival, you will quickly realize why those extra pennies are worth it - this is wildest Africa at is most unspoiled and untamed.

Safari Packages By Country & Area

Dinner in a dry riverbed in the Sabi Sand.

South Africa

Our South African safaris include the unique wildlife reserves of KwaZulu-Natal as well as the malaria-free parks of the Eastern Cape and North West provinces. These safaris range from standard guided overland trips to exclusive fly-in packages.

South Africa's 'world in one country' description certainly extends to its wilderness areas. There is such an incredible diversity in geography, vegetation and species that we highly recommend experiencing more than one safari destination if your time and budget allow it.

Kruger National Park

The Kruger Park safaris offered by African Sky count among our most popular safari packages. With almost 150 different species of mammal and all levels of accommodation available (camping to ultra-luxurious lodges), it is not difficult to understand why.

The amount of return visitors and frequency with which even locals visit the park is a testament to just how wonderful (and addictive!) the park is. Kruger truly is more than just a safari destination - it is an experience. It takes hold of the heart and soul and, once it does, you will find it impossible to shake.

Sabi Sand

A safari in the Sabi Sand is indelibly a luxury safari experience. With its wealth of premium four and five star lodges and a 50km border open to the Kruger National Park, Sabi Sand is the go-to destination for nature enthusiasts who also harbor a taste for the finer things in life.

The reserve stretches across 65 000 hectares of prime unspoilt bushveld. Each lodge has its own specific area of traversing rights, which means that traffic at sightings is low to non-existent. There is quite a thrill in sharing a leopard sighting or lions on a kill with only a handful of other souls!

African Sky offers safari packages to the Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park and Makgadikgadi Pan - areas renowned for their remote wildernesses and sheer natural beauty.

One of the main distinctions of a safari in Botswana is the amount of exclusive safari activities on offer: mokoro rides in the delta, river cruises on the Chobe and quad bike safaris over the pans will provide thrills unavailable elsewhere. Botswana is a particularly great travel destination for visitors who've already been to South Africa and are looking for a novel adventure.

The enchanting landscape of Deadvlei in Namibia.

Namibia is one of the most unique safari destinations in Africa. Visitors will be astounded by the wealth of wildlife found in semi-arid regions like Etosha, or by the sky-scraping dunes and rare desert creatures that inhabit Sossusvlei.

Many of our Namibian safaris incorporate more than just game viewing and wildlife, including visits to the handsome seaside town of Swakopmund with is distinct German colonial flavor, or a cultural encounter with the local Himba people of Damaraland. This country offers more than meets the eye.

Cruise the Zambezi River while on safari in Zambia.

Our most popular safaris in Zambia typically visit the the Victoria Falls - the country's main attraction. Exciting activities such as elephant-back safaris and Zambezi River cruises characterize these adventures.

Safaris to the country's more remote wilderness areas - like the South Luangwa, Kafue and Royal Zambezi national parks - are increasingly in demand. African Sky sorts out all the logistics to ensure that you reach 'deepest, darkest Africa' with remarkable ease.

Client Reviews

I tried contacting another agency, but when they saw the package I wanted with African Sky, they stopped e-mailing. The Kruger National Park is South Africa's most important conservation area. The park is visited annually by a great number of safari enthusiasts in search of the Big Five and the tranquility of the African wilderness.

Those interested in a luxury safari need look no further than the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve. This South African game reserve boasts a multitude of fine lodges and some of the finest game viewing on the African continent.

The Okavango Delta is one of Africa's last remaining Edens, a vast stretch of sand flooded by the waters of the Okavango River. This oasis attracts a multitude of mammal and bird species.

Riaan's Suggestions

A safari in Africa can be one of the world's most rewarding travel experiences. The most important aspects to take into account during the planning phase is to ensure that you get accurate advice and that your budget, expectations and requirements are well communicated.

South Africa is a great destination for a first time safari because of its well-developed infrastructure and the ease with which the various safari areas can be reached. Botswana and Namibia should be considered by those who are unafraid of light charter flights, and who have an appetite for exploring some of Africa's last Edens.

Whichever area or safari package you choose, a general rule of thumb should be to spend more time visiting fewer destinations as opposed to trying see all that Southern Africa has to offer on one safari. The minimum stay I would recommend is three to four nights in a specific safari area.

Considerations when planning your safari

Best Private Reserves for a luxury Safari

Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve From basic four star lodges to luxurious top-end retreats, Sabi Sand offers safari enthusiasts some of Africa's finest safaris and a range of different budget options.
Sabi Sand
Timbavati Private Game Reserve. Though not as well known as Sabi Sand, the Timbavati Private Game Reserve offers incredible Big Five safaris in an area that forms part of the greater Kruger National Park.
Phinda Private Game Reserve Phinda is the premier private reserve in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal Natal Province. The reserve is home to the Big Five and boasts a number of luxury lodges as well seven distinct eco-systems in which game drives are enjoyed.
Shamwari Private Game Reserve Shamwari offers luxurious accommodation in a number of lodges scattered throughout a stunning conservation area. The reserve is malaria-free and is arguably the closest real Big Five safari destination near Cape Town.
Madikwe Game Reserve Madikwe borders Botswana and has the unique distinction of lying in the transitional zone between the higher rainfall eastern part of South Africa and the lower rainfall west. This results in a high diversity of mammal species.
Balule Game Reserve One of the lesser known private reserves that forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park, Balule has a beautiful setting in the Olifants River Valley, and offers a more affordable safari experience than Sabi Sand and Timbavati.
