Overview

Originally only a single stream, the miners of the 1883 Barberton Gold Rush blasted the cliff face to divert the falls. They sought access to the gold-bearing reef beyond the cascading deluge. Named after the community of Scottish miners that settled in the area, the falls bear the status of a South African national monument.

Located only a few minutes from the cozy town of Sabie, the falls provide a wonderful pit stop on a tour in the area. When blessed with warm and balmy weather, the Mac Mac Pools a short trip upstream provide a picturesque picnic post with braai facilities and clear natural pools ideal for swimming.
