Akademie Street is situated in the picturesque town of Franschhoek. With a rich cultural heritage that dates back hundreds of years to when it was originally occupied by the French Huguenots, it is no surprise that Franschhoek is still known for exceptional cuisine and unmatched wines. Modern Franschhoek is home to the best boutique hotels in the country, with Akademie Street setting the standard. The Oortuiging building that forms part of the hotel dates back to 1860, making it one of the oldest structures in Franschhoek. Over the years the property has grown to include five immaculate buildings, which are all designed in the classical Cape-Dutch style.
Akademie Street has five luxury suites and three cottages. No expense was spared to make these large and comfortable rooms feel like you are inside your own fully equipped home. Everything you might need is right at hand and free of extra charge; from sunscreen and hats to utilize whilst lounging poolside, to pastries and coffee that can be enjoyed during lazy, sunlit afternoons, and even award-winning local wines that can be savored whilst relishing the splendid view.
The suites and cottages have all been given Afrikaans names and have their own special attributes to make your stay a truly wonderful and unique experience. These special attributes include private wood-burning hot tubs, plunge pools, slipper baths with wonderful views, and fireplaces. For those who like to take a dip in the brisk early morning air or under the stars, there is a solar-heated communal pool to do so.
Akademie Street does not formally serve dinner, but with eight out of South Africa’s top one hundred restaurants being located in Franschhoek, there is no shortage of choices. However, on request, dinner can be organized under the pergola in the garden. Breakfast is served daily. Numerous scrumptious hot dishes and a selection of fifteen local fruits can be enjoyed for breakfast. Moreover, Akademie Street will even prepare items for breakfast on request, which are not listed on their wide-ranging menu – this is service at its best. Guests are also welcome to unwind with a drink in Akademie Street’s chic lounge or bar.
