Satara Rest Camp is known as the Kruger Park's 'cat camp' due to a high concentration of predators.
Satara means ‘lasting impression'. It is the third largest rest camp in the Kruger National Park. You will find it in a spectacular game-viewing area, with open bushveld and plenty of animal life. The camp is situated in the central region of park, and is most easily accessed via the Orpen Gate near Hoedspruit.
A variety of accommodation options are available for a safari at Satara. When on a Kruger National Park safari with African Sky, you will always stay in your own private air-conditioned room. These rooms are equipped with en suite bathrooms and are serviced daily. Satara Camp has bungalows, guest cottages, guest houses and camp sites. The camp offers a restaurant and cafeteria as well as a small shop where the most basic of necessities can be purchased.
Two bird hides (the Sweni Bird Hide overlooking the Sweni River and Ratel Pan Bird Hide overlooking the Piet Grobler Dam) offer spectacular bird watching opportunities in the area surrounding Satara. Kids are entertained at the swimming pool and children's playground.
Satara is a great base for some of Kruger's most exciting game viewing. The camp is comfortable, but definitely not luxurious. I have stayed at Satara on countless occasions since childhood and I must say the area in which it is located is definitely the part of the Kruger National Park in which I have had the most exciting game sightings. It is one of the only parts of the park that provides some relatively open plains - a fact that is greatly beneficial if you, like me, are a keen photographer intent on capturing images of animals with not too much brush in the frame.Read More
