Lower Sabie Rest Camp is located in the most wildlife-rich region of the Kruger Park.
Lower Sabie is set on the banks of the Sabie River in the southeastern Kruger National Park, close to the foothills of the Lebombo Mountains. It takes its name from the Sabie River - one of the park's few perennial rivers and the perfect wilderness base for a Kruger National Park safari. Because of its ideal location overlooking the river, guests are ensured of excellent game viewing throughout the year.
The camp consists of a luxury guest house, bungalows under thatch as well as guest cottages, huts, safari tents and camp sites. When on safari in South Africa with African Sky, you will always stay in an air-conditioned room with an en suite bathroom. Though not luxurious, the accommodations are very comfortable, and provide an ideal base from which daily Kruger National Park safari game drives are conducted.
The camp has a newly built restaurant and viewing deck that offer panoramic views of the river. This venue is ideal for enjoying magnificent sunsets while viewing different animals quenching their thirst in the river. There are many picnic spots near Lower Sabie which serve to enhance an authentic South African safari experience. The most popular of these are Nkhulu (brilliant leopard territory) and Tshokwane, set in the shade of a massive sausage tree.
Of all the national park rest camps found in the Kruger National Park, my favorites are Lower Sabie and Olifants camps. The reason I like the camp because of its setting on the banks of the Sabie River, the towering trees that shade the camp, and the fact that it is located in one of the most productive game viewing areas in Kruger. Its restaurant burnt down a couple of times, a fact that led to the construction of what, in my opinion, is the finest restaurant located in the Kruger National Park. Basic, but the finest.Read More
