Letaba Rest Camp is situated between the southern and northern boundaries of the famous Kruger National Park, on the banks of the Letaba River. The name 'Letaba' means "river of sand". This river is a tremendous location for game viewing, particularly for elephant sightings. The camp is set in a green oasis surrounded by Mopane trees. In the winter time, the gardens render the richest colors, with several species of aloe and the Impala lily in full bloom. The aloes attract a variety of birds, including the white-bellied and Marico sunbird, crested barbet, black-headed oriole and black-eyed bulbul.

The accommodation options range from guest houses and cottages to bungalows and other options which are not relevant here. When on a Kruger National Park safari with African Sky, you will always have a private air-conditioned room with an en suite bathroom irrespective of the type of accommodation, which may vary depending on group size. The camp offers a restaurant, small shop and a swimming pool. Although not luxurious, these accommodations are very comfortable. Letaba provides an ideal base from which to enjoy the wildlife whilst on safari in South Africa.

Guests who stay in the camp have a clear view of the other side of the river and can watch animals as they converge at the water's edge. The elephant museum, which is home to seven of the largest tuskers that have lived in the park, provides an interesting attraction and educational addition to your experience.

Riaan's Review

The bungalows of Letaba provide basic, but comfortable accommodation in the Kruger National Park. My first visit to the camp was with my family, when the measure of the length of my life was still in single digits. The area surrounding Letaba offers incredible game viewing. It is notable that you are likely to encounter large herds of elephant that favor the mopane brush typical of some areas surrounding Letaba. The restaurant located in camp will ensure that you do not go hungry, but I would most definitely not write raving reviews about it.
