Detailed Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Garden Route
Guests will be met by their guide from where they will travel in a north-easterly direction traversing the towns of Riversdale and Swellendam before reaching the small town of Albertina. A visit at the House of Aloes will give guests an overview on how the gel and bitter sap, derived from the leaf of the Cape Aloe, is being transformed into a range of beauty and wellness products. Guests can sample some Aloe beer before they continue to Mossel Bay, followed by the town of George and the guest’s overnight destination. The route between George and Knysna is often described as one of South Africa’s most scenic as the road travels through Wilderness and Sedgefield. |

Day 2: Garden Route
After an early breakfast guests will travel to George and turn off to the town of Oudtshoorn crossing the Outeniqua Mountains. The Outeniqua Mountain range is characterized by gentle southern sleeps and steep drops on the north side down to the low valley, the Little Karoo. Oudtshoorn is a large and modern town that relies mostly on farming and the ever-present ostrich industry. Guests will visit a local ostrich farm and during their visit they will learn more about the world’s largest bird which lays the largest egg and has the most beautiful feathers. After an opportunity to take part in an ostrich ride, standing on their eggs and cuddling the chicks, guests will make their way to the Cango Caves. The extensive cave system of tunnels and chambers go on for over four kilometers of which only about a quarter of this is open to visitors. The cave exploration is followed by a visit to the Cango Wildlife Ranch. The ranch is one of the leading cheetah breeders in South Africa where guests are permitted to enter a fenced area to interact with a tame Cheetah. |

Day 3: Garden Route
Knysna is primarily built on the northern shore of a large warm-water estuary, fed by the Knysna River. The estuary opens to the ocean after passing between “The Heads”, and has become infamous due to the loss of boats and fishermen perishing through their treacherous and unpredictable waters. Guests will board a ferry crossing the lagoon to the Featherbed Nature Reserve. Featherbed Nature Reserve is a prime example of eco-tourism and in order to protect the splendor of the natural beauty, visitor numbers are limited. During the afternoon The Knysna Elephant Sanctuary will offer guests a closer look at the African Elephant by touching and feeding these gentle giants. |

Day 4: Addo Elephant Park
Guests will leave early making their way past Plettenberg Bay and through the Tsitsikamma National Park where guests make a stop at the Paul Sauer Bridge which spans the impressive Storms River Gorge. It is a marvel of architecture and engineering and was designed by Italian Riccardo Morandi. A 10 minute walk will take guests to the Big Tree, a Yellowwood giant standing 36.6 meters high and is estimated to be +/- 800 years old. Upon reaching the “Friendly City”, Port Elizabeth, the road turns inland for a 40 minutes drive to the Addo Elephant National Park where guests will check in at the Elephant House. |

Day 5: Addo Elephant Park
The original section of the park was founded in 1931, in part due to Sydney Skaife, in order to provide a sanctuary for the eleven remaining elephants in the area. The park has proved to be very successful and currently houses more than 450 elephants, 400 Cape buffalo, over 48 endangered black rhino as well as a variety of antelope species. Lion and spotted hyena has also recently been re-introduced to the area. The day will be spent in search of the elephants that made this Park so famous. |

Day 6: Addo Elephant Park
The expansion of the original park by including the Woody Cape Nature Reserve meant not only that the park contains five of South Africa’s seven major vegetation zones (Biomes) but also that it is one of the only parks to house the so-called “Big 7” (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, leopard, whale and the great white shark) in their natural habit. The expansion also includes the St. Croix Island and Bird Island, an important breeding habitat for gannets and penguins. Bird Island is home to the world's largest breeding colony of gannets - about 120,000 birds - and also hosts the second largest breeding colony of African penguins. The day will be spent in the Addo National Park. |
