Self Drive Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Oudtshoorn
Clients are met upon arrival at Cape Town International Airport by a representative of African Sky Safaris and Tours who presents them with their self drive tour itinerary, a map book of South Africa as well as a GPS on which a suggested route has been pre programmed. The locations of the suggested activities and places of interest we suggest in this itinerary are also logged in the GPS. At this time clients are also presented with accommodation and other relevant vouchers which they will require on their self drive tour.

The Representative spends an hour with guests going over the route and offering suggestions and advice. All members of the African Sky Team have years of experience in conducting tours and safaris in South and Southern Africa. He or she should be able to answer any questions clients might have regarding their self drive holiday. The representative then assists them with collecting their rental car after which clients embark on their self drive holiday of South Africa.

Guests can decide which route to take. First route will take you through the towns of Robertson, Montague then through Claitzdorp a quaint little town on Route 62, nestled in the heart of the Klein Karoo, also known as The Port-Wine Capital of South Africa, then on to Oudtshoorn. The alternative route will take guests along the beautiful Garden Route drive through Mossel Bay and George over the mountain to Oudtshoorn.

Guests will book into Adley House a magnificent Victorian home with an olde world charm. There are two swimming pools where guests can relax. Fresh bread or "Vetkoek" is baked every morning - and in the evening, on request, they will braai (barbecue) or you can enjoy a four course meal - real South African style. Ostrich steaks being their speciality!

Day 2: Oudtshoorn
Places to explore in the fascinating area are one of the worlds great natural wonders, the Cango Caves, sculptured by nature through the ages. Guided tours are organized to experience the Ostrich Farms and for the brave of heart a ride on an ostrich could be quite an adventure.

Day 3-5: Knysna
Guests will then make their way to Knysna which is situated between lush forests and the shores of the peaceful estuary. It offers many activities and attractions. Knysna has a rich history, gourmet restaurants and a variety of art & craft rambles. This pearl of a place is one of the most scenic in the world and offers beaches, lakes and lush forests in which to enjoy. Knysna Heads must be the most striking geological features along the entire southern African coastline. They flank a deep but potentially treacherous channel through which the sea pours in to flood the wide and breathtakingly pretty lagoon at the mouth of the Knysna River. In this natural beauty guests will be accommodated in Knysna Hollow Lodge. A gracious old manor house built in a bygone era finished with pressed ceilings, yellowwood floors and indigenous furniture. Guests can enjoy fine food in relaxed and warm surroundings.

Some suggested outings include a ride on the famous steam train along the coast through striking scenery or experience the shopping, eating and lagoonside lifestyle of the Knysna Waterfront. Relaxing next to the sparkling pool is another option where you will see the abundant bird life, maybe even a Knysna Loerie!

Delicious oysters from nearby shores and the freshest fish from the local fishing boats are sure to be part of the culinary treat.
