Detailed Self Drive Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Kruger National Park
Clients are met upon arrival at Johannesburg International( O. R. Tambo) Airport by a representative of African Sky Safaris and Tours who presents them with their self drive tour itinerary, a map book of South Africa as well as a GPS on which a suggested route has been pre-programmed. The locations of the suggested activities and places of interest we suggest in this itinerary are also logged in the GPS. At this time clients are also presented with accommodation and other relevant vouchers which they will require on their self drive tour.
The Representative spends an hour with guests going over the route and offering suggestions and advice. All members of the African Sky Team have years of experience in conducting tours and safaris in South and Southern Africa. He or she should be able to answer any questions clients might have regarding their self drive holiday. The representative then assists them with collecting their rental car after which clients embark on their self drive holiday of South Africa.
Suggested Itinerary
Traveling through the beautiful Mpumalanga Province you will make your way through Belfast up to Dullstroom, a quaint little town situated at 2100 m above sea level, making this one of the highest towns in the country. Dullstroom features the highest railway station in South Africa at 2,077 m above sea level. It is South Africa's premier trout and fly fishing area and is the only region in South Africa where you will find the endangered Crowned Crane, the Blue Crane, as well as the Wattled Crane which is critically endangered. A stop for refreshments and a stroll through this charming little town is suggested. Your journey continues through Lydenburg over the Long Tom Pass. Its highest point is 2 150m above sea-level. The old pass, constructed with pick and shovel by human labour was first used in 1874. Then onto Sabie a small country town nestled in the majestic Drakensberg escarpment mountains. Beautiful waterfalls and nature walks can be done if you wish to spare the time. Pilgrims Rest is the next stop. A unique historic village offering the visitor a fascinating window into the past which captures the spirit of a bygone era and its people in their quest for gold. The entire town is declared a National Monument as a living memory of the gold rush days during the 1800's and 1900's.

Day 2-3: Kruger National Park
Suggested Itinerary
Early morning game viewing is best. The Phalaborwa gate leads you directly into meandering woodlands of Mopane trees, bushwillows and acacias. Mopane grows as a tree or shrub depending on the climate and the degree of usage by the Elephant. Elephant abound in Mopaneveld as more than half of the Elephant population of Kruger National Park resides in this area. The best game spotting is in the drainage lines and the contours around dry stream beds as the more luscious grasses are usually found in the lower lying areas. You have an opportunity to exit your vehicle within 10 kilometres/6.2 miles from entering Phalaborwa Gate. Here you will be able to view the Sable waterhole or the Masorini Cultural Village at the foot of the Vudogwa Mountain (439m). Sable waterhole is a place where the Sable frequents. These shy animals are normally difficult to spot as they prefer to roam in denser thickets. Wild dog are often seen around Phalaborwa. Breakfast and evening meals are catered for.
