Kruger Safari (5 Days) - South Africa Safari

The Kruger Safari is a five day experience which departs from and returns to Johannesburg. We travel overland to the Kruger National Park where the days are devoted to game drives.

The Kruger Safari is accompanied by an experienced African Sky guide whose unique insight into the behavior and habits of the various species, and the habitat in general is sure to make this safari in the Kruger National Park an unforgettable experience.

Detailed Safari Itinerary Day 1: Kruger Safari Guests are met at any location of their choice in either Johannesburg or Pretoria from where the safari travels via the Mpumalanga Province and the towns of Lydenburg and Orighstad to Hoedspruit and then on to the Orpen Gate which is the gateway to the Central Kruger National Park. The Central region of Kruger supports half the parks Lion population and encompasses only about 30% of the surface area of the Park. The estimated 60 prides of Lion prey on large herds of Wildebeest and Zebra which find the sweet open grassland of this region an ideal habitat. The afternoon is devoted to a first safari game drive in this area of the Kruger National Park accompanied by your experienced guide.

Day 2: Kruger Safari The days two game drives focus on exploring the Central Kruger National Park with habitats ranging from the mountainous terrain of the Lebombo Mountains in the east to open savannah grassland which are scattered with trees favored by browsers like the Giraffe and Kudu. Large herds of Impala are also found throughout the area and are the prey of choice for predators ranging in size from the Black Backed Jackal to the illusive Leopard. Different plains species like the Giraffe, Wildebeest, Zebra and impala are often found grazing and browsing together for this increases their chances of detecting predators more easily and thus increases their chances of survival.

Day 3: Kruger Safari The Kruger National Park safari makes its way to the southern section of Kruger while enjoying a game drive which often runs parallel to the banks of the Sabie River. The Sabie is one of the four principal rivers which run through the park . In the dry season game concentrates around the permanent water sources and there is an increase in sightings of various animals. Hippo and crocodile are found in large numbers in this river, and sightings of both are a near certainty on this day. Camp is reached during the mid afternoon and we devote some time to rest and relaxation before enjoying a night safari that leaves camp just before dusk. The night safari where the predators like Lion and Leopard can potentially be spotted stalking their pray is always very exciting. The night safari also offers the opportunity of seeing some of the nocturnal animals as they go about their daily lives.

Day 4: Kruger Safari The dense vegetation which characterizes the area between Lower Sabi and Skukuza is the focus of an early morning safari in search of the species of mammals which make this area their home. Skukuza is reached for a late breakfast after which some time is devoted to visiting the local museum which depicts the history of the Kruger National Park and where the remarkable tale of one of Kruger's first rangers fight to the death with a Lion comes to light. The safari then returns to Lower Sabi via a different way, with game viewing en route. The afternoon is spent relaxing on the banks of the Sabie River, enjoying sun downers and catching a glimpse of animals coming to the waters edge for a drink.

Day 5: Departure
A last morning game drive in this wilderness area is followed by breakfast and a return journey to Johannesburg via the national highway. Guests are dropped off at any location of their choice in either Johannesburg or Pretoria after a memorable Kruger National Park Safari.
