Namibia Safaris - African Safari in Namibia
|
|
On Namibia Safaris you will find a country wedged between the Kalahari and the South Atlantic. Namibia Safaris offer a striking diversity of cultures and national origins, Namibia is a photographer’s dream – it boasts wild seascapes, rugged mountains, lonely deserts, stunning wildlife, colonial cities and nearly unlimited elbow room. On a safari in Namibia you will find an arid country, Namibia can be divided into four main topographical regions for safari purposes: the Namib Desert and coastal plains in the west, the eastward-sloping Central Plateau, the Kalahari along the borders with South Africa and Botswana and the densely wooded bushveld of the Kavango and Caprivi regions. Despite its harsh climate, Namibia Safaris offer exceptional experiences in some of the world’s grandest national parks, ranging from the wildlife-rich Etosha National Park in North-western Namibia, to the dune fields and desert plains of the Namib-Naukluft Park in Western Namibia. Windhoek, in the Central Highlands, is the country's geographical heart and commercial nerve centre, with an ethnic mix of people, while surfers and beach-lovers will enjoy Swakopmund.

Namibia Safaris in the Etosha National Park |

Etosha National Park is widely regarded as one of the best game reserves in Africa. It offers a range of Namibia Safaris with exceptional photographic opportunities. A startling number of different species can be observed on an African Safari in Namibia's Etosha National Park. Game viewing is excellent because wildlife is forced to congregate around the park’s water holes for much of the year and there is little vegetation to obstruct one’s view. Due to the predictability of game concentrations, Etosha is not only one of the most popular African Safari destinations in Southern Africa; it also has an exceptionally high proportion of predators to herbivores. This offers visitors an excellent chance of witnessing thrilling confrontations between lion and zebra, springbok, impala and wildebeest while on safari in Namibia. |

Namibia Safaris at Sossusvlei |
Namibia Safaris at Sossusvlei are amongst the most desired safari experiences in Namibia. In the central Namib Desert lies a clay pan within the Namib-Naukluft National Park called the Sossusvlei. “Vlei” in Afrikaans means a shallow depression filled with water. Sossusvlei is a mud pan created by a river that flows through the Namib every 5 to 10 years.
Even in very wet years it does not reach the Atlantic Ocean but drains away between the dunes of Sossusvlei. Sossus means "place of no return". Only after a heavy rainfall, which is a rare event in this area, does the vlei fill with water. As the clay layers hardly allow any water infiltration, a turquoise lake, this creates a natural spectacle which can be enjoyed on a Namibian Safari in this area. |

Namibia Safaris at Swakopmund |
|
|
Swakopmund is a seaside resort making it the premier safari getaway in Namibia, for those seeking a beach safari in Namibia. The interior of Swakopmund has intense heat during the summer months which makes the calming influence of the cold Atlantic waters a welcome relief. Another relief to the heat is the cold early mornings and evenings Swakopmund was founded by Captain Curt von Francois as the main harbour of German South West Africa in 1892. |

Namibia Safaris on the Skeleton Coast |
The Skeleton Coast is a "No-man’s-land" where the hot desert meets a cold sea along an inhospitable shoreline. It offers a unique Namibia Safari experience. There is no drinking water or food. On the beaches lie many shipwrecks – a reminder of the many disasters that have befallen seafarers on this coast. On a Namibia Safari to the Skeleton Coast you will find a bleakly cold sea to the west and a barren wilderness of sand to the east. The area is swept by cruel winds, with vicious sand storms. The attraction of this remote area lies in the colour, changing moods and untouched profile of its landscape. Its aura of mystery and mightiness is largely due to the dense coastal fog and cold sea breezes caused by the cold Benguela Ocean Current from the Arctic, and bones scattered on its beaches from where the park's name derives. The landscape in the park ranges from sweeping vistas of wind swept dunes to rugged canyons with walls of richly coloured volcanic rock and extensive mountain ranges. |

Namibia Safaris in the Caprivi |
The Caprivi is a remote area and quite unlike any other region in Namibia. This area is crossed by two major rivers, the Okavango and Kwando, while the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers form the north-east and south-east boundaries. It is the only area in Namibia that is lush and green and well watered by my rivers. Game viewing opportunities abound on Namibia Safaris in the Caprivi region.
The riverine forests along these rivers attract large numbers of mammals and numerous species of aquatic birds. Wildlife you can expect to see when visiting the Caprivi Game Reserve includes buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard, hippo, roan and other antelopes. The Caprivi was named after General George Leo von Caprivi, the successor of Bismarck as German Chancellor.
