White River Country Club is located in South Africa's handsome Lowveld region.
A few minutes outside the Mpumalanga town of White River, the White River Country Club golf course was recently revamped to a Par-72 18-hole game from its original rather modest 9 holes. Kikuyu and Florida grasses make up the fairways while Bayview grasses dress the greens. Mature pine trees and spectacular waterways pepper the grounds and ensure a satisfying, challenging experience.
The course was first opened for play in March 1924. The grounds were initially mowed by oxen and mules, and the club only acquired a tractor in 1949 after barely surviving the Depression and war eras. Surrounded by thick forests of plantations and overlooking the White River for which the town is named, the club provides a host of other facilities as well, including tennis and squash courts and cricket and hockey fields.
The new course was designed by Gary Player and Reg Taylor and offers world-class play in a Lowveld countryside milieu. The championship-style parklands course boasts an exciting variety of nearby attractions, from the Blyde River Canyon, Sudwala Caves and Pilgrim’s Rest to the world-renowned Kruger National Park. Combine your South African golf tour with such an excursion to enhance your trip.
