Rattray’s Lodge is situated on the Mala Mala Private Game Reserve. Mala Mala is the largest private Big Five Reserve in South Africa. It borders on the Kruger National Park. The animals can move around freely between the two reserves, as there is no fence to restrict movement. Large numbers of game is attracted to the reserve by the Sand River that runs through Mala Mala Game Reserve. The reserve has a wide range of habitats, ranging from river brush to open savannah, making the diversity of animals and bird species that can be observed even more.
Rattray's, on Mala Mala, offers luxurious style, with crystal and leather evident in all 8 luxury suites. Each suite has its own private verandah, as well as its own heated plunge pool. The outdoor shower gives guests the opportunity to experience nature in a different, secluded way. For bird lovers, bird watching is made effortless with the indigenous private garden that each suite offers. The suites also ensure a home away from home with an outdoor and indoor dining area, giving more privacy, especially for those who would like an intimate meal.
Rattray’s has an air-conditioned dining area and a large safari deck, where breakfast and lunch are served. At night guests can sit around a log fire, enjoying their meal with the sounds of nature echoing in the background. When it is time for relaxation, guests can enjoy a drink at the historic bar, explore the well stocked wine cellar or read a book in the library, which contains rare African books. Guests can stay connected via an internet connection or satellite television in the library. There are also an optional satellite television, laptop computer with wireless internet connectivity and DVD player in your suite. Rattray’s also offers a small fitness facility and a safari boutique. A massage service is available on request in the comfort and privacy of your suite.
Open 4x4 safaris are conducted each day in search of the diverse game species. These drives are usually conducted twice a day, one in the morning and the other in the late afternoon. Only four guests per vehicle are allowed in order to keep the viewing intimate and personal. The afternoon drive usually goes on until after sunset, in order to give guests the opportunity to observe Africa’s night life. Game walks are also held for those who prefer some exercise while exploring Africa’s fauna and flora. |
