Jack’s Camp, so named after Jack Bousfield, was discovered by him while on a trapping expedition in the Makgadikgadi Pans. He saw the beauty of this land and developed a luxury camp under the palm trees. Jack’s Camp is deep within the Kalahari Desert, and on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans. The Kalahari Desert is an arid to semi-arid desert, covering much of Botswana and some of Namibia and South Africa. Jack’s Camp is on the Botswana side of the Kalahari Desert. Jack’s Camp accommodates twenty guests in ten walk-in tents, each with an en-suite bathroom. The camp offers luxury and comfort in these 1940’s African style tents, with Persian rugs and pure cotton sheets. Each tent also has an outdoor shower. Guests can take a shower under starry skies, in the magnificent African wilderness, or relax in comfort, on their tents private verandah, watching over this unique ecological area. Daily game drives are enjoyed in the company of Bushmen, with their intimate knowledge of the land and its creatures. A visit to Jack’s Camp is both stimulating and informative as you learn about the geology of the area as well as meet various species, like the meerkats and the brown hyena which would not normally feature in other safari areas. They are used to human visitors, and can be observed closely. Alternatively, take a guided walk with the Bushmen trackers. In the dry season, when weather permits, it is quite an adventure to take the quad bikes for a drive out on the saltpans. Families are also welcome at Jack’s Camp. Because of its unique landscape, photographers could find the area the perfect setting for artistic nature photos. |
