Deep in the heart of Botswana’s Okavango Delta is the Eagle Island Camp a luxury Botswana Safari Lodge. The Camp is situated on the island, Xaxaba, and is surrounded by Illala Palms, the camp overlooks a lagoon. The Island forms part of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve conserved by tribal, rather than colonial, people. The area is home to an abundance of bird and wildlife species and is unfenced, allowing game to move freely around the Okavango Delta. At Eagle Island Camp accommodation is provided in twelve luxury tents, combining the wilderness and comfort. The tents are raised on wooden platforms and are shaded by large thatched roofs. A wooden deck can be used to do game viewing from lazy chairs and hammocks which are situated on each suites deck. The suite has a large extended deck for game viewing or guests can relax in the heated splash pool set on the side of the wooden deck. Guests who stay in the suite have access to their own private game drive vehicle and ranger. Well known at the Eagle Island Camp is the romantic Fish Eagle Bar, where guests can enjoy a drink or dinner while beautiful colours come alive as the sun sets over the African wilderness. Dinner can be enjoyed in front of a warm fire or at the off site bush dining area. Next to the lagoon is a large swimming pool, perfectly situated for game viewing while relaxing in the cool or heated waters. Guests have an intercom system to the reception and, if guests need anything, the camp staff is just a buzz away. For the adventure seeking visitor, Eagle Island Camp has plenty to offer. They offer walking safaris on the surrounding Islands, where one can expect a close encounter with game and wildlife. Another option is taking a safari trip per either motorboat or a mokoro (dugout canoes) on the vast waterways that form the Delta, this offers a diversity of wildlife that will both fascinate and captivate any visitor. In the months where the water levels are lowest, 4x4 vehicles may be used for safaris off the islands, in a way combining water and land safaris.
