Cape Town Tour - 5 Days (Code T43) |
|
|
Day 1: Cape Town
Guests are met at any location of their choice in Cape Town. The morning is devoted to a cable card ride which brings guests to the top of Table Mountain. The main feature of this mountain is a level plateau of 3 km which is bordered to the East by Lions Head and to the west by Signal Hill. It is one of the most recognizable natural landmarks in the world. The cable car ride of about 5 minutes offers exceptional views of the Cape Town City Bowl. On reaching the top we devote some time to visiting different viewpoints from which spectacular views of the Cape Peninsula can be enjoyed.
The tour then makes its way to the Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden. The gardens cover an area of 528 hectares with 36 hectares of cultivated garden. The gardens are a celebration of South African flora - showcasing only indigenous South African plants. Fynbos, proteas, cycads and rolling lawns are intermingled with streams and ponds. The gardens are home to a great diversity of birds, and some incredible views can be enjoyed from the upper slopes. Following the Kirstenbosch visit , we make our way back to the hotel.

Day 2: Cape Town
An early breakfast is followed by a transfer (pick up at 05:45) to Gans Bay where Shark cage diving Adventure is enjoyed. A Boat trip (+- 20 min) will lead to the anchoring site close to Dyer Island. The specific Anchor site is chosen, depending on the weather, sea conditions, season and previous shark sightings. Upon reaching the desired location we start chumming which is followed by White shark observation and cage diving. The time for the first shark to appear however cannot be forecasted, and varies from a few minutes to several hours. When a shark is spotted, the crew monitors its behavior. If the shark relaxes, then the cage and divers can be lowered into the water. Snacks and drinks can be enjoyed on the boat throughout the whole trip. The cage diving experience is followed by a return journey to Cape Town.

Day 3: Cape Town
A short ferry ride from the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront brings guests to Robben Island. This infamous Island only 574 Ha in extent , measuring 3,5 by 2 km, has played an important role in South Africa's long and turbulent history. Views which can be enjoyed off the Cape Peninsula and the South African mother city make the ferry ride quite an enjoyable experience. Home to President Nelson Mandela for a large part of his 27 year incarceration, the prison has since been turned into a museum and the tour is conducted by an ex political prisoner who has had first hand experience of the conditions on the Island. Visits are made to the prison building as well as to the lime stone quarry where the prisoners where forced to work. Some wildlife have been re-introduced to the Island and a glimpse might be enjoyed of one of Africa's animals in these surroundings. The duration of the Robben Island excursion including the return ferry ride is about four hours which would bring guests back to the V& A Waterfront around lunch time. The rest of the afternoon is spent at leisure. |

Day 4: Cape Town
After breakfast a forty-minute drive leads the tour into the heart of South Africa’s wine producing region where the stark contrast between vineyards and harsh mountains create the perfect backdrop to a tour of the historical town of Stellenbosch. The town is the oldest in South Africa after Cape Town, and is undoubtedly the most scenic and historically-preserved town in Southern Africa. Oak-lined streets next to water furrows compliment the many fine examples of elegant Cape Dutch, Victorian and Georgian architecture - all part of this unique "Town of Oaks".
The town, ideally situated in a magnificent mountain valley, boasts a mild Mediterranean climate. The Stellenbosch Wine route is the oldest, largest and probably the most visited of the Southwest Cape’s wine routes. Many of the estates are very old, their gabled, whitewashed Cape Dutch Homesteads, rolling vineyards and shade-dappled grounds lovely beyond measure. We visit two of these fine estates where the art of wine making in South Africa is experienced first hand. A large variety of cultivars can be sampled and a specific cultivar which appeals to your palette is sure to be found. The tour returns to Cape Town during the late afternoon.
