In the heart of the Okavango Delta, in a pristine water world, is the Xugana Island Lodge. The name means “kneel down and drink”, a word that is used by the Bushman people to describe this permanent Delta with its crystal clear waters, which wind through reeds and papyrus beds that open onto tranquil lagoons. This is the home to many fish and bird species, as well as other wildlife that has made the Delta their home.
There is accommodation for a maximum of 16 guests in raised reed and thatch “Mesasas” Theses are situated on the shaded fringe side of the island, each with a view of the lagoon. The “Mesasas” are stylishly decorated and has either twin or double beds with en-suite facilities and a ceiling fan. Each room has a private deck that leads out to the lagoon, with amazing views of the surroundings. The swimming pool at the Xugana Island lodge has been innovatively constructed out of a heavy metal cage, in the lagoon waters, making it possible for guests to swim in the lagoon without fear of anything, including “fat Albert”, the long time resident crocodile.
