Skukuza

Skukuza is the main camp of the Kruger National Park and is situated on the southern banks of the Sabie River. It is named after James Stevenson-Hamilton, the first warden of the park.  It is a Tsonga name, meaning ‘he who sweeps clean’ when translated, because he was the one who removed all the local people, in order to establish the park.
The Stevenson-Hamilton Memorial Museum houses many interesting artifacts – the most renown is the knife that ranger Harry Wolhuter used to single-handedly slay a lion and save his own life. There are a variety of accommodation options from camp sites, to tents to luxury bungalows, cottages and guesthouses. There are also an auto bank, post office and public toilets. The shop stocks a variety of goods to select from, if you prefer a self catering lodge.  The restaurant and cafeteria serve light meals for visitors to enjoy.
